Critics of immigration reform have been up in arms over Arizona’s decision to implement the “Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act,” or state Senate Bill 1070, into law. What the critics fail to recognize is that the state has been forced to act on illegal immigration because the federal government, who is constitutionally responsible for immigration enforcement, has failed to address this problem on its own.

Use Your Freedom of Choice
Hey Rostrafarians, it’s Friday with a vengeance for The Libertarian Lass. Here in the midst of primary election season, many important issues are being discussed on San Diego Rostra. As for me, I think it’s time for a little social commentary disguised as a rock gem from 1980. This song remains an amazingly modern and relevent commentary on conformity and …
Jeff Stone takes “Slush Funding” to a New Level
Just when we thought the San Diego County Board of Supervisors was as blatant as it could get in spreading their “discretionary” taxpayer monies (slush funds, to be exact) around the community as a way to promote their names and curry favor, then we take a look next door. Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Stone has taken the use of taxpayer …

The law says Bejarano can’t operate this kind of company while police chief, but of course the Chula Vista City Attorney says it’s fine as long as he’s trying to get …

By now, everyone is familiar with the charge that Arizona’s new immigration law is racist. So now, when a state decides to enforce a federal law about people needing to enter our country legally, rather than illegally, somehow this is racist. According to the latest CBS poll, 61 percent of Americans agree with the new law. Wow! That’s a lot …
Hadley and Wayne: Liars!
“I have rarely seen a more pathetic example of a candidate telling one audience what he thinks it wants to hear and telling another audience what he thinks it wants to hear.” Howard Wayne and Steve Hadley, two candidates for San Diego City Council in District 6, got a healthy dose of political reality this morning when they discovered that …
California’s governor race shows signs of a Scott Brown-like victory
With GOP Senator Scott Brown’s win in Massachusetts as inspiration, Steve Poizner’s campaign has risen from the dead and pulled within 10 points of Meg Whitman in the Republican primary race for governor. While the numbers come from internal polling, the outfit providing the intel is none other than Senator Scott Brown’s public polling firm. The numbers demonstrate “how fluid …
May Day Rally videos show many are ill informed about immigration
Thousands of Americans and immigrants marched across the country on Saturday; many were celebrating the traditional May Day activities including traditional dancers. However the real story may be the fact those chanting against Arizona’s new immigration law were misinformed. Camera crews were out in earnest filming the May Day events and calling attention to many aspects of the supposed anti-immigration …
Don’t Let the Media Start a Civil War
The media frenzy surrounding Arizona’s immigration law is nothing less than the press inciting a civil war. There is no shortage of hypothetical outcomes of the new law and these scenarios are repeated as if they are already “fact.” The new Arizona law does not take effect until the end of July, and no one has been stopped or questioned …

Double Tax Trouble in the South Bay Tonight
Last night, the San Diego County Taxpayers Association put out the word that the City of Chula Vista would attempt to pass a “crash tax” at its Tuesday afternoon meeting. To recap, these fees are imposed upon the responsible parties in vehicle accidents for a whole bevy of services, under the guise of “cost-recovery.” Umm, isn’t that what our TAXES …

San Diego City Council denounces Arizona’s immigration law
In an ongoing trend in local and national government, politicians are voting in a manner that their constituents do not favor. They appear to abide by a new political correctness; “we know better than you what the rules should be.” First voters watched their lawmakers defy their wishes on health care and now local municipalities are addressing Arizona’s illegal immigration …
