Poway Mayor Steve Vaus deserves praise for raising awareness about the SANDAG tax scheme. He acted on the suggestion to get an up or down vote from the Poway City Council. Last night, Poway rejected the SANDAG tax scheme unanimously. Escondido unanimously rejected the tax a couple of weeks ago. Coronado and Vista have it on their agendas for up …
Former Poway Councilmember Boyack supports Vaus for Mayor
Guest Column by Hon. Merrilee Boyack As we approach election time, you will note that I have been vocal in my support of Steve Vaus for Poway Mayor. You may ask why I care since I have moved away. Well, I gave my heart and soul to Poway for almost 25 years — and I deeply care about the people …
Poway’s Mayor race: Vaus or Higginson?
Poway’s Mayor race — Councilman Steve Vaus or current Mayor Don Higginson? This year’s election started out bland several months ago with only incumbent Higginson announcing he would run. Things became a bit more interesting when rumors started to circulate that Councilmember Jim Cunningham, a Democrat, would challenge the Republican mayor. That would have been an interesting race, with two …
It’s about remembering…
From Poway City Councilman Steve Vaus… Memorial Day is SO much more than barbecues and beaches – it is a day to remember and be thankful for those who gave their lives so we can be free. The sacrifice they and their families made is nearly incomprehensible – we are forever in their debt. Set aside some time this weekend …
Whack the camel’s nose
Guest Commentary by Steve Vaus – Councilman, City of Poway I remember a proverb from grade school: One cold night, as a Bedouin sat in his tent, a camel gently thrust his nose under the flap and looked in. “Master,” he said, “let me put my nose in your tent. It’s cold out here.” “By all means,” said the Bedouin, …
Vaus Endorsed by Republican Party in Poway City Council race
Steve Vaus, the leader behind a full-fledged effort to recall Betty Rexford from the Poway City Council, last night overwhelmingly earned the support of the Republican Party of San Diego County in his own campaign for the seat. “Even in a non-partisan race it’s a great honor to be endorsed by the Republican Party,” said Vaus. “My allegiance is foremost …
Poway Recall election and the endorsement from Bob Emery
I’ve respected Bob Emery (Retired Poway City Councilmember) for years, but that has now changed. First, take a look at a past blog of mine regarding the candidates… http://sdrostra.com/?p=4387 In this week’s “Poway Chieftain”, in his column/editorial “My Town” (http://pomeradonews.com/article/Editorial/Editorial/My_Town_Pete_Babich_is_best_choice_for_City_Council/32923), Bob endorsed Pete Babich for Poway City Council. I find it interesting since Pete’s the only candidate that mentions he’s …
HELP! Who to support for Poway CC?
I’m looking for guidance and input concerning the Poway city council elections. I understand that certain candidates are opposed to the proposed Poway Wal-Mart Superstore (for whatever reasons they care to claim). I’m interested in supporting candidates who will vote FOR the Wal-Mart enterprise. I care not what the claimed reasons are. My pro-Wal-Mart position is based on consumer choice, …
Poway and the recall election
First of all, let me lay my biases on the table. I’m an idealist. That can be good or bad. I hold politicians to a higher standard. I expect more from them. I’m also supporting Chuck Cross for Poway City Council which I will describe why later. I’m also Poway Councilmember Merrilee Boyack’s appointee to the City’s Park and Recreation …
The benefit package of politicians
Yesterday in the “Poway Chieftain” Newspaper (http://pomeradonews.com/), there was a column titled “Viewpoint” (I’m sorry, but the paper doesn’t allow me to bring up the article for posting) in which the author made a comment regarding the free healthcare and reimbursement policies (including their retirement package with PERS) that members of the Poway City Council receive. Of course the fact …
Breaking News: Steve Vaus Launches Bid for Poway City Council in Recall Election
Steve Vaus, who successfully coordinated the petition drive to place the recall of City Councilwoman Betty Rexford on the ballot, today announced that he will seek the Poway City Council seat to potentially be decided as part of the June 6 election. On his website, Vaus announces, “I launched the Recall Rexford campaign with one goal . . .to give …
Breaking News: Poway Recall of Betty Rexford Qualifies for Ballot
From my post at FlashReport… The long, sad saga of Poway Councilwoman Betty Rexford reached what may be its final stage this morning. The FlashReport just confirmed that the San Diego County Registrar of Voters completed its sampling of petitions submitted by recall proponents, certifying that more than the required 5,657 needed signatures were submitted. Over 6,300 valid signatures were …
Poway: Game On!
As I post this, Councilmember Betty Rexford recall proponents led by Steve Vaus are announcing at the Poway City Council meeting that they have collected about 2,200 of the 5,657 petition signatures required to qualify for the ballot. This is with only 30 days elapsed of the 120 days allowed in which to collect signatures. These are raw numbers, but recall …
Rexford Sounds Off in Poway News-Chieftain
In an article written by editor Steve Dreyer and published today, Poway City Councilmember Betty Rexford blames high level city staff for pitting her fellow councilmembers against her. Your thoughts?
Betty Rexford Changes Party Registration in an Attempt to Avoid the Party
….BREAKING NEWS…. It’s her Party, she can leave if she wants to. If you’re Councilwoman Betty Rexford, facing recall in Poway for a littany of wrongs (see all the related SD Rostra posts), and you want to avoid or at least avert a weeks-long standing invitation by the local GOP to attend a meeting to give your side of things, …
Rexford Apologists More Concerned about Disclosure than What is Right
Saturday’s Union-Trib editorial “Rexford Must Go” (posted below) was spot on, while alluding to SD Rostra’s role — via my post — in releasing the smoking gun memo sent by the Poway city manager to Councilwoman Betty Rexford in 2006. Some of the resulting comments on the U-T website are a testimony to the “hide the facts” attitude of Rexford …
Poway City Manager Memo: Rexford’s Conflicts and Interference with Administration
In the midst of a recall effort against Poway Councilmember Betty Rexford, additional compelling evidence against her has been uncovered. In September 2006, Poway City Manager Rod Gould felt compelled to send a confidential memo to Rexford warning that her “recent actions constitute a conflict of interest and interference with City administration.” The memo speaks for itself. Read it here.
Breaking… Rexford’s Husband Said to Threaten Neighbor with “Gun”
***Breaking News*** Whether or not you’ve been following the saga of Poway Councilwoman Betty Rexford, the documented harassment of her neighbors, and the resulting recall effort against her (here’s some background), the following breaking information from today really takes the cake. I am told that this morning Rexford and her husband Paul were sitting in their car at the end …
Rexford had Access to Personal Fire Rig During Wildfires!
Despite the apparently true saga of Poway Councilwoman Betty Rexford’s use of city staff to go after her neighbors, have the mainstream media picked up on something way worse than that, her demands for a fire truck to be stationed at her house during the devastating wildfires? OHMY. Read a recent missive from the Recall Rexford effort, as well as Logan Jenkins’ …
