So imagine …

U-T Watchdog Finds Errors In NYT’s Issa Story — Plus, My Place Overlooks A Golf Course!

Bradley J. FikesBradley J. Fikes 5 Comments

The San Diego Union-Tribune’s Watchdog team did some excellent investigative work examining errors Rep. Darrell Issa’s office claimed in last week’s New York Times story on Issa. Watchdog found some serious inaccuracies. Among them, Watchdog confirmed Issa’s claim that he bought a medical office building for $16.6 million, not the much lower price claimed by the New York Times. Thus, …

County Redistricting – Response to Steve Danon

Supervisor Pam Slater-PriceSupervisor Pam Slater-Price 3 Comments

As I have already made clear, I support the implementation of an independent commission to redraw county supervisorial lines. The difference between me and Steve Danon, who wrote to the North County Times about this issue, is that he tries to write commentaries that leave out facts in the hopes that you won’t find out what he omitted. And although …

What Did Darrell Issa Do With DEI? Another NYT Piece To Consider

Bradley J. FikesBradley J. Fikes Leave a Comment

UPDATE, Sunday morning: Here’s a piece about Issa by my most-excellent North County Times colleague, Mark Walker: After eight months at work as the Republican Party’s chief watchdog in Congress, Vista Rep. Darrell Issa has yet to find any “smoking guns” revealing corruption in the Obama administration. But in his role as chairman of the powerful House Oversight and Government …

Obama Administration’s Illegal Illegal Immigration Plan

B-DaddyB-Daddy Leave a Comment

The administration announced Thursday that it will cease deporting those identified as illegal immigrants who pose no threat to public safety or national security so that it can focus on catching and expelling criminals who do. That’s the purported rationale. Let’s look at the overall policy of the administration with a view to actual results. Step 1. Don’t enforce the …

Baxamusa Changes Headline To Be Just Misleading, Not Totally False

Bradley J. FikesBradley J. Fikes Leave a Comment

Better than nothing, I guess. Murtaza Baxamusa has changed his false headline charging that SD Rostra published the home address of labor leader Lorena Gonzalez  into something less wrong, but still misleading. While the creep who broke Gonzalez’ home window deserves to go to jail, this headline is still a smear that presumes what there is no evidence for.  (I …

Otay Water District Board’s Blatant Abuse Doesn’t Stop at Employee Benefits

Guest ColumnGuest Column 3 Comments

Guest Column by Chris Shilling With the recent highly controversial votes to approve lifetime healthcare benefits at the Otay Water District for all employees and their spouses, the attention has finally turned to Otay’s board of directors. This is long overdue as this board has spent the last decade squandering ratepayer money while increasing water rates to pay for their …

Baxamusa has comfirmed my expectations of his character: Not only has he kept his lie about Rostra in place, he’s put his post there on DK. Bob Siegel Defends President Obama

Let’s stop all the nonsense about President Obama’s vacation plans for Martha’s Vineyard. So he goes on vacation! Big deal! It’s not like other presidents haven’t gone on vacation. How many vacations did George Bush take? Even if our former president took less, Obama deserves extra rest, because he has a far more stressful job. After all, those mean spirited …

Escondido Police fight to stay competitive while enforcing the law

Kimberly DvorakKimberly Dvorak Leave a Comment

When it comes to law enforcement, the Escondido Police Department tends to lead California regarding rule-of-law policies. Police Chief Jim Maher prides himself on enforcing immigration and traffic safety laws on the books-sometimes to the chagrin of illegal-immigration activists. So when the issue of officer salaries boiled to the surface, the Chief knew negotiations wouldn’t be easy. The Escondido Police …
