Ferret Lovers Covet Maienschein’s Backing

Ferret lovers coveting Assemblyman-elect Brian Maienschein’s backing might be in for disappointment.

Evidently, LeagalizeFerrets.org founder Pat Wright fell to despair when two supportive candidates lost in the general election on November 6. Yet, he wrote in his recent newsletter this fuzzy note of love:

“There was one person elected who had some ferret knowledge. Brian Maienschein was elected in the 77th Assembly district and met Alice Kaiser and her ferrets.”

Not so, said Maienschein campaign manager Lance Witmondt who told the Sacramento Bee: “Brian has not ever met a ferret and he will not be sponsoring legislation to legalize ferret ownership.”

From the Maienschein campaign…

Dear Fellow Republican:

If you agree that we need more Republicans in Sacramento who will fight to eliminate the regulations and tax policies that are driving businesses and jobs out of California, please join us in endorsing Brian Maienschein for State Assembly in the 77th District.

As a City Councilman, Brian Maienschein worked closely with the business community, earning a 100% voting score from the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce and personally helping to grow local businesses and attract new ones. He stood up for open competition on construction projects to reduce taxpayer costs.

Maienschein Thinking About A Comeback?

Brian Maienschein served for eight years on the San Diego City Council. A Republican heavily supported by the labor unions, he cast many of the votes that put the city in such dire straights. He then ran for San Diego City Attorney – and was slaughtered. He now works for a help the homeless nonprofit. But he can’t shake the political bug. He’s considering either running for his old council seat or the state assembly. Just what City Hall or Sacramento needs.

Gettin’ Hot in the 2012 Kitchen

So, it’s only January 2011 and already, we’re seeing some folks filing papers to run for office. Good thing, ’cause some of us just can’t stand a breather.

Of course, tongues were wagging last week when Republican San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio filed papers to run for termed-out Republican Mayor Jerry Sanders in 2012.

The SDUT announcement included a quote from Republican political consultant John Dadian, who said the early filing technically means little. But he also concluded that the “media hound” will continue building on his name ID.
