Feb. 4, 2011 – SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Happy Dutch Day? Nope, most Americans say they’d rather work.

More than 60 percent of Americans reject the idea of denoting 40th President Ronald Reagan’s birthday, February 6, as a federal public holiday.

The survey of 504 American adults was conducted between February 1-3, 2011 by Competitive Edge Research & Communication.

Just days before the centennial of his birth, the survey shows support for the holiday somewhat split along party lines between Democrats and Republicans, with independents siding with Democrats in opposition.

The GOP doesn’t get the media and really, the feeling seems mutual. So listen up, there’s an elephant in the room and he doesn’t know how to look good on TV.

During the State of the Union Address last night, I watched the speeches as if I were critiquing and assessing candidates of my own. Overall, the Democrats and Republicans are not just divided by political differences, but also in appearances.

Regardless of whether the Conservative powers that be in D.C. care to admit it – appearances matter.

Issa the “New Sheriff” in D.C.?

The Daily Beast brings us this little nugget in the sea of top lists of this or that: The Top 11 Politicians to Watch in 2011 (guess spotlighting 11 rather than 10 is a play on the year).

And sliding into the No. 1 spot of this distinguished list: San Diego’s own Congressman Darrell Issa (R-Vista). Reason: He’s expected to head up the House Oversight Committee.
