Randy Voepel is the first area Republican Assemblymember to answer SD Rostra’s Facebook-posted query from this morning, which asked legislators for a public position on whether Chad Mayes should continue as GOP Assembly Leader.

“Based on my own feelings regarding the future direction of our caucus,” said Voepel, “as well as the wishes of our local and state Republicans, I am supporting and urging a change in leadership.”

Rostra thanks Voepel for the timeliness of his response. We’ll see if there are others. To be fair, this weekend marks the end of Summer recess, so Members of the Assembly may be focused on wrapping up vacations and heading back to Sacto.

Yet, legislators would have to be alone on a desert isle to not know Mayes has been under attack the last few weeks since voting against the majority of his caucus’ wishes on Cap and Trade.

Republican activists deserve to know if their legislators are willing to go public about their feelings on keeping or ousting Mayes as leader. The Assembly GOP Caucus could meet as early as Monday on that question.

Last night the board of the California Republican Party voted 13-7-1 in support of Harmeet Dhillon’s resolution, as follows…

“Given the uproar over recent decisions and actions by Assembly Republican leader Chad Mayes and the fact that those decisions and actions have acted to divide the California Republican Party, the Board of Directors of the CAGOP urges Leader Mayes to resign his leadership position immediately, and if he fails to do so, urges the members of the Republican Assembly Caucus to select a new leader at the earliest opportunity.”

To ensure all have a chance to see and answer the Rostra question, here it is…

Is any San Diego area Republican Assemblymember willing to go on record about where they stand on Chad Mayes continuing as leader? — Even if it’s an undecided?

Those “tagged” on Facebook include Assemblymembers Marie Waldron, Rocky Chávez, Brian Maienschein, and Voepel.

  1. Let’s make this the best Eclipse in Centuries…Get rid of BAD governing, while seeing the whole world flash before us! YES , you can legislature! You can become stand up representatives, invite the constituents along rather than just having you drive the ship while we pay for the fuel expenses, vehicles, fancy meals and ALL the Pollution & Hot air that comes from it!!! I know quiet a few good female leaders from the San Diego Region who’d help you…even your own old colleagues like Ms. Saldana who’s been looking how we can end the LARGEST Hepatitis A outbreak in FOR EVER! By helping the Homeless of San Diego become cleaner, safer, and more participant constituents in #AffordableHousing ! Not just $300k per unit new housing, but CLEANED, REHABED, and REFRESHED older housing stock while making higher cost units available for middle class workers who are also long to purchase homes. Let’s say a shifting of the guard…Two bangs for our buck$! And we will not complain about extra air fare, as long as you are willing to get the job done right. Out the Assembly leader, help the homeless clean up, and housing the middle class hard working constituents of San Diego, and ALL of CALIFORNIA…Yes, YOU can, if you will! P.S. I’m politically homeless, but looking for great leadership to lead me in my selection of an upstanding party!!! (previous 35 yr. republican).

  2. How many Rostra articles on Mayes?

And how many on the FBI raiding the offices of a local rep who spent campaign money on video games and a family vacation to Italy?

Nice try, but your attempt to prove our bias proves only yours. In the last few years, the number of Rostra articles critical of Hunter for particular votes, far exceeds the number of articles about Chad Mayes. That’s right, critical.

Granted, those articles haven’t necessarily been about the ongoing Hunter investigation regarding the use of his campaign credit card.

But, you may miss the point of Rostra. Our writers are made up of volunteers, political activists, government followers, and general political insiders. Our readers are reflective of those who follow the news already. Look through our headlines and you typically won’t find the same news stories you’ll find in the mass local media. With volunteer bloggers, we don’t NEED to be that and we can’t even PRETEND to be the that kind of source of news.

If it’s already in the news and covered well, nearly anyone who comes to Rostra is likely very aware of it. Do you really think there are Rostra readers who aren’t already aware of the Hunter credit card stories?

Are we then going to ensure we duplicate the stories here, just for the sake of ensuring someone doesn’t accuse us of ignoring those stories out of bias? Chances are, you won’t be convinced we aren’t biased, no matter what.

    Oh, and news at 11 — we’re a center-right blog!

Yet, if a blogger chose to write about Hunter, they’d be free to do so, but bloggers may quite frankly not be interested in writing about an issue already known about by generally anyone in San Diego with an interest in politics. Yet, Eric Andersen, one of our bloggers, has been quite critical of Hunter, here and on Facebook.

Although there is no editorial control of what bloggers choose to write for Rostra, it’s far more likely you’ll find articles here that reflect items or perspectives not already covered by the local media.

Some GOP party happenings are often of interest, as those issues aren’t typically covered my the MSM. The Chad Mayes fallout has been of particular interest.

Oh, chances are we’ll leave this comment up for only a day, as we wouldn’t want anyone searching the web to come up with anything on Rostra mentioning Hunter and credit card in the same sentence. LOL!
