“I have rarely seen a more pathetic example of a candidate telling one audience what he thinks it wants to hear and telling another audience what he thinks it wants to hear.”
Howard Wayne and Steve Hadley, two candidates for San Diego City Council in District 6, got a healthy dose of political reality this morning when they discovered that telling one group one thing and another group something completely contradictory isn’t really a good idea when seeking public office, especially when one of those groups is the San Diego Union-Tribune Editorial Board. I’m attaching a link to the full article from the UT; anything I could say wouldn’t do this Hadley/Wayne trainwreck justice…

While I don’t know the full context of both discussions, maybe Steven and Howard should use the words of Lorie Zapf about the comments between the Democratic Club and the U-T Editorial Board:
“do not accurately reflect my views or actions then or now”

I think the context was they pandered to the Dem Club then lied to the Ed Board. I actually do agree that “…do not accurately reflect…” would have been an acceptable answer if they were using the phrase in regard to long past statements, not immediate conflicting statements.
