“There may be a time…”

That’s the answer Sherry Hodges provided on KOCT last week during a roundtable discussion between the run-off candidates in the 76th Assembly District.

The question and Hodges’s response begins at the 43:00 mark in the video link above.

Hodges’s opponent, Rocky Chavez, plainly says “no new taxes” when asked the same question. Hodges is endorsed by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association.

  1. Nice try on endorsement day. “There MAY be a time but I don’t see it,” was the full quote. As always, context is important.

Sherry Hodges is a tax-fighting leader. She was the first to sign the Taxpayer Promise and that leadership caused Douglas and Chavez to follow suit. Hodges caught considerable heat from the NC Times for her leadership, on that issue, while Douglas and Chavez took the temperature for a month or so.

Sherry is endorsed by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Assn. Tax compromisers don’t get that endorsement. Col Chavez is a good and honorable man but he’s no Sherry Hodges.

  2. If you continue the quote “…but I don’t see it, I think that right now we are over taxed. We have been losing … jobs out of state… We don’t need to be taxing people anymore.”

The fact of the matter is that Sherry Hodges signed the no new taxes pledge nearly a year before her opponent, who was reluctant to do so. Furthermore, Sherry’s position has been published in both The San Diego Business Journal and Flashreport.org.

Sherry’s credentials regarding taxes are beyond reproach.

The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association does not hand out their endorsement easily or without vetting each candidate.
DISCLAIMER: I am Sherry Hodges Campaign Manager

  3. I don’t know what is more disturbing. Hodges appearing to break her pledge or the fact she says the Republican legislators have a secret plan to raise taxes. Campaign Manager Tony Trejo, get her a debate coach!

PS Can she tell us which assemblymember told her of the secret tax plan?
