The Committee that urged a vote raising SD City Sales Taxes last Fall, has now disbanded with the filing of an official form. Voters defeated Prop. D with a 62% majority, in part owing to the asymmetrical campaign waged by our own Gayle Falkenthal and GOP Chairman Tony Krvaric.
In a 2nd happy note for local Taxpayers, fiscal watchdog Dan Mc Allister signalled this week he will seek another term as SD County Treasurer in 2014, with his own paper filing.
………. A Full ‘Sales Tax’ Name to Remember
The full name of the Yes-on-D committee is worth repeating. It is the longest name of a committee your correspondent can remember in recent San Diego election history. Ready?
“Protect fire and police services. Yes on Prop. D, sponsored by San Diego City Firefighters Local 145 PAC, San Diego Police Officers Assn. PAC, business leaders, organized labor and concerned taxpayers.”
For some reason “concerned taxpayers” were mentioned in that name last. The group with the long name passed from the scene with filing of a Form 410, “Termination” statement. It can be argued City voters “terminated” it last November with their ballots.
………. Dan Mc Allister is Ready to Serve
Meanwhile, the man who toppled an incumbent in a 2002 Countywide race signed the papers stating he plans to seek a new term in 2014. That is longtime businessman Dan Mc Allister, who won his last race with 78% of the vote. He serves as the San Diego County Treasurer. Congratulations to Dan Mc Allister for a job well done.
