I’m spending the weekend with my family weighing an important decision. No decision made yet!

Hypocrisy questioned
No decision made yet? LOL. The decision was made the second a deal was cut to have Filner resign.

Fantastic!!
I think it is a prudent and practical decision if Mr. DeMaio “decides” (actually, follows through…we know he has decided) to run for mayor. This is palatable on so many fronts…for the “Republican light” contingent of the SD Republican establishment, they continue to feign their “Republican” creds, while attempting to out “left” the left in supporting a candidate, while known and admired by many in San Diego, I fear would whither in the scrutiny of a federal campaign. Mr. DeMaio has illustrated and proven himself as a fiscally savvy and pragmatic champion for good, sound financial and budgetary issues while city Councilman…for which I applaud him with a hardy “golf clap.” However, in the incipient attempt to water down key, established, and decades long-held positions that for every major national Republican candidate has been at their core, Mr. DeMaio misses the mark. The great thing about Carl DeMaio running for Mayor, is because he has proven himself adroit with city politics and fiscal restraint and responsibility, I needn’t concern myself with the fact that he doesn’t pass the litmus test as a Republican in the image of Ronald Reagan for the national stage. Even if he were a registered Democrat, I would surely vote for him over Nathan Fletcher. DeMaio, while not a Reagan Republican, and frankly not digestible for thousands of voters in the 52CD based on his stated positions on Abortion and Marriage, is a journeyman for our local, city woes. He is a good politician, and has, and will continue to serve San Diegans well.
…so…GO CARL!!!!
In actuality, Mr. DeMaio is more Sam Nunn than Ronald Reagan…and many Republicans could admire Sam Nunn for his fiscal approaches and measured yet firm positions on National Security…but they never forgot, Sam Nunn, was a Democrat. Mr. DeMaio, while affable and nimble as a local politician, challenges the very essence of what defines the Republican Party. And thats ok…it challenges the Republican establishment here in SD and forces them to commit to where they see the Republican Party in toto as we move into the next election cycle.
There are those, within the establishment, that think we can serve “Ice Cream., ” without all the ingredients. Like the Republican Party as defined by Ronald Reagan, Ice Cream is made up of four essential elements; 1) It must be frozen, 2) it must be sweetened, 3) It must be flavored, 4) and it must have cream….i.e. History has defined the Republican Party as it accepts the four tenets as exemplified by Reagan; 1) Fiscal Responsibility (including regulatory environment that is not overly cumbersome for the Free Market), 2) Realist Approach to National Security, 3) Fervent belief in Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness (which embedded in this explicitly is the Right To Life for the Unborn), and 4) Morally Conscious perspective as defined by Our Founding Fathers (which explicitly connotes a Judeo-Christian world view, and embedded within that is a millennia-long acceptance of marriage between a man and a woman in the construct of a nuclear family).
That is irrefutable as a traditional Republican philosophical position. I think one can add to that, but to deduct from it, gets us back to the Ice Cream analogy.
The SD Republican Party would have you think we can support a candidate like Carl DeMaio, who admittedly has stances diametrically opposed to the Life and Marriage issues as defined by Reagan (at least implied by him). They will serve you Ice Cream, in the form of a candidate like Carl DeMaio, who is more snow cone than ice cream…he is “frozen”, (great fiscal approaches) and is “flavored” (perhaps amenable to solid, prudent, and relaistic approaches to national Security) but doesn’t have “cream” (life) or is not “sweetened” (Marriage)…people may like that, vote for it, even rally behind it…but it ain’t Ice Cream…it is, by definition, something else.
We, as true Republicans, need to be very cognizant of the fact that there are thousands, and thousands of registered Republicans in 52CD that want Ice Cream…not a bowl of melted sweetener and be forced by inside track political leaders to “shut up and eat your dessert.” Again, if I want a cool, refreshing Snow Cone, then I am looking for canidate in the form of a Carl DeMaio..
We need a candidate that has ALL of the ingredients that define a Republican…not some altered state or re-defined notion of what a Republican is….and certainly not for political expediency or acceptance in the politically correct circles of the media or left-leaning pundits..and that needs to be understood by the establishment Or, and most disconcerting, in their attempt to “widen” the appeal of the Republican Party, they will alienate and eventually lose the thousands of conservative republicans that will not accept some melted, tasteless version… Despite the hype and rhetoric of those opposed to the Republican Platform in the baseless and incendiary accusations of “intolerant” and “myopic”., and yes, sadly “homophobic”.. It is about conviction…and without it, we all become no better than the crass and shameless political weathervane that is Nathan Fletcher.
Mr. DeMaio has already shown his desire to be Mayor, so I am not sure that constitues “political opportunism.” The battlefield changed, and DeMaio, if he chooses to run for Mayor, will adapt and seize the “moment” to where he has already proven his adroitness…I do not believe DeMaio will prevail as a Congressional candidate. Jorgensen is the sleeper. His combat experience and selection and activation as a fully accredited CIA Case Officer will spring vault him in the discussions on national security and defense…where DeMaio, and Peters are most vulnerable.

re: my choice for Mayor?
one thing that DeMaio has that I have not heard yet form any other candidate is the fact that as Mayor, DeMaio will disconnect our city from the chains of ICLEI
(a foreign global entity) the real power behind the throne.
Any other mayor will probably just kowtow to status quo.
Look Colfax, CA along with a host of other cities left ICLEI. it can be done. Americans are not that stupid that we need a global enity to control our every day lives
