U-T San Diego reporter Jen Kuhney, apparently writing a story on City Council District 1, sent out a surprising tweet earlier:

@jenkuhney: .@SherriLightner said she supports the pension reform ballot measure “but the devil is in the details.”

The Ellis campaign was quick to respond…

Ray Ellis’ Statement on Sherri Lightner’s Stance on Proposition B:

“Sherri Lightner has opposed pension reform every step of the way. I led the way for reform on the Pension Board and worked with my colleagues to bring transparency and accountability to city government. One of the reasons I am running for Council is Sherri’s failure to support reform efforts, and today is no different. District 1 voters want, and deserve, someone who will tackle our fiscal issues, not talk about them in an election year.”

  1. Reminds me of how other Jennifer Tierney candidates have masqueraded…. like when Howard Wayne tried to say he was against Prop D. Nobody bought it. Or Bonnie Dumanis with the six-figure pension saying she’s pro-CPR.

  2. There is something deeply satisfying in watching the fall out after a consultant comes in and says “WOW, have you looked at this poll and the cross tabs for YOUR district?”

My guess is CPR is running over 65 and maybe over 70% in D1 for the June Primary.

  3. I’m with Erik. Some time ago, I predicted CPR would pass by a 2-1 margin.

I suspect the unions have all but given up on the ELECTION, and instead will fight in the courts — and in their bought-and-paid-for state legislature.

This new “nuanced” Lightner position on CPR is her version of switching political party registration for tactical political gain. Fletcher led the way.

  4. Maybe Council member Lightner will explain how she squares getting a “3.5% at 60” City pension for herself for being on the Council, but is still sincere about Pension Reform!? Double standard, anyone.

  5. Sacramento Sam,

I hope you don’t ever plan on supporting Bonnie Dumanis (this year’s Mayor’s race or re-election to DA in 2014) since she too is in favor of Prop B and she will collect a $200,000+ per year pension.
