Supervisor Greg Cox revealed  Friday  that his campaign committee now has $325,365 cash-on-hand after adding $109,383 in new donations from Jan. 1 to June 30, 2011.  NONE  of that  $109K  came from loans either… all of it represents new donations.

Cox, former Chula Vista mayor, represents District 1 (South Bay).  Rumors hinted that ex-state senator  Denise Moreno  Ducheny might oppose him in 2012.  Recent reports, however, suggest Ducheny may instead battle Juan Vargas for the spot in Congress being vacated by Bob Filner.  Supervisor Cox is a Republican.

That leaves Greg Cox with no visible opponent for 2012 when he seeks a new term as County Supervisor.   District 1 is anchored by the cities of  Coronado,  National City,  Imperial Beach,  Chula Vista and parts of San Diego city.

Previous District 1 incumbents include  Brian Bilbray (1985 -95),  Tom Hamilton (1977-1985),  who  also served  as Chula Vista mayor,  and legendary San Diego political character Jack Walsh  (1971-1977),  a former San Diego city councilman who was never seen in a dull election.
