In a KOCT interview for the 76th Assembly District race, Logan Jenkins asks Rocky Chavez about his support for Cap and Trade and his belief in global warming. Chavez sums up his support for both with the slick sound bite, “I believe in science.” He supports Cap and Trade, but disapproves of the lack of budgetary transparency. He points out that government has fixed the smog problem. (The global warming discussion can be found at minute 18 of the linked video.)
Sounds reasonable, but let’s talk about reality. We have had global warming since the middle of the last ice age – millions of years before man existed. Science would indicate that man is not the cause of global warming in the same way man is the cause of smog. Important distinction. The question shouldn’t be does man impact his environment, as every living creature impacts their environment. The question should be what is the cost of Cap and Trade laws on the jobs of the people Rocky would serve. That question is one he didn’t even consider.
If you want a representative who considers your needs first, then vote for Sherry Hodges. She doesn’t talk in sound bites, but she deeply cares about bringing jobs back to California. It is her top priority.

Mr. Andersen; I watched the footage you described and that’s not what Mr. Chavez said at all. He actually said “I think the way California is doing the Cap and Trade is exactly wrong.” And goes on to talk about why he doesn’t support it. I’ve now seen him on KOCT several times and Mr. Chavez seems to have an excellent grasp of the problems in Sacramento. I urge everyone to watch the entire show and judge for yourself! I dislike this kind of misinformation, it’s not helpful at all.
Jenkins to Chavez, “ . . . at the time you said ‘I believe in science … I believe in Global Warming and I am assuming you believe it is man-made.”
Note Rocky’s response.
He doesn’t deny Logan’s observation and characterization of him nor take the opportunity to disconnect himself from such a label.
Instead of addressing the lack of science and the destructiveness of Cap and Trade, Rocky only addresses an issue of budget transparency.
I am sorry. I expect someone who calls themselves a ‘fiscal conservative’ to understand property rights and destroy such an accusation.
His response gets an “F” from me. This brand of “conservatism” is destroying our state. I am afraid Chavez would only conserve the status quo not the principles of Conservatism.
Mr. Andersen asks a great question:
“Does Chavez consider the cost of Cap & Trade?”
But Mr Jenkins asked this “Can you support Cap and Trade or are you going to try and repeal it?”
Col. Chavez’ answer expressed that he thinks Cap and Trade is wrong but then he misdirected the conversation to government-sponsored smog abatement (and his opinion that it was a success). He didn’t answer the question.
I’ll ask it directly, to Col. Chavez, right here and now:
Will you try to repeal the existing CA Cap and Trade plan within the first 12 months of being sworn in, if the voters of the 76th Assembly District choose you instead of Mrs Hodges?
Did Rocky Chavez have a Todd Akin moment or is he really in the man made global warning camp?
