Former Assemblyman George Plescia (R) today took out papers to seek the 39th Senate District seat, setting up what could be a classic matchup against Assemblyman Marty Block (D). I have a call into Plescia for a comment.
Here is some prior Rostra coverage of the seat and its registration numbers by Jim Sills.

YES! Block needs to be retired big time! Plescia was my assemblyman, and I’m so glad he’s running.
Great news. George is a rockstar. Proud to support him.
George is a good man. He was my Assemblyman (Nathan’s mine now). Joel is my Senator so I can’t vote for George, but I can lend my support.
This is VERY good news. It’s a winnable race, but at the very least the Democrats will now have to send millions and MILLIONS to try to win this seat.
As soon as we cripple the labor unions’ ability to confiscate their members’ money (against the members’ will via payroll deduction) for political purposes, we’ll have a shot at returning sanity to the state legislature — and to California.
This will be an epic battle beyond San Diego. This may be one of the few Senate races that will not have an all-but-certain outcome because of district lines. Will the Democrats get 2/3rds control of the State Senate? It may boil down to this race.
Good luck George!
I’ve already got Plescia 8 votes. 6 of which are Democrats who voted for Block for Assembly.
Great news and a great candidate. Now, we need to find a viable candidate to replace Strickland up in Ventura county.
