County Supervisor Pam Slater-Price filed papers in the last 48 hours to start a re-election bid for the 2012 election cycle.  She has served the County’s 3rd District  since being  elected in 1992 (from the  Encinitas city Council).  Already in the field for District 3 in 2012  is  Steve Danon, chief aide to Congressman Brian Bilbray, and like Slater, a fellow Republican.

The 3rd district  includes Escondido, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar and part of San Diego City, including Rancho Bernardo,  San Carlos, Del Cerro, Carmel Valley, Mira Mesa, Penasquitos and La Jolla.  Ms.  Slater-Price’s last serious contest  was in  2000, when Solana Beach Mayor Marion Dodson mounted a well-organized bid,  but lost by a decisive 61% to 24% margin.

Still unknown are what District Three’s exact boundaries will be after the once-a-decade Redrawing of Supervisorial election maps later this year.  The Supervisors handle that vital process themselves through  a closely-watched majority Board vote.

The exact paper filed by Supervisor Slater-Price is Form 501,  titled, “Candidate Intention Statement“.  This one specifies County Supervisor, District 3, and also refers to the 2012 election cycle.  It was located among public records today by SD Rostra’s Hydrilla Guerrillas.

  1. Great work, Jim. Significant here is that some conjectured Danon started his campaign early last year in anticipation Slater-Price may not seek re-election, or as a means to keep her from running if she were undecided. There has also been talk that Pam’s Chief of Staff John Weil would be seeking the seat with her blessing, and that Danon was mounting an early effort for that reason.
