New poll on HSR — voters would kill it if again on ballot
New poll: If another California HSR vote were held today, 59% would vote against it. With 8% undecided, it probably would end up going down by a 2-1 majority.

WSJ: HSR subsidy trains to nowhere
The flow of studies and editorials excoriating the California High Speed Rail train wreck come at us at ever-increasing speed and frequency. There’s only one description for this disaster that fits — FRAUD!!!
Read the latest WALL ST JOURNAL editorial below. Note particularly the lies used to sell this gigantic hoax to the gullible voters, compared to more real world estimates of ridership, cost of construction, jobs created, operating costs and ticket costs.
For instance, only two years ago, the rail boondoggle projection was that 94,000,000 passengers a year would ride on CA HSR paying $55 a ticket. Now the more realistic figures are predicted to be 5,000,000 to 10,000,000 riders at $190 a ticket.
All transportation subsidies are NOT the same
FROM MY BLOG:
A common argument for High Speed Rail (indeed ALL passenger rail) taxpayer subsidies is the childish excuse that “everybody’s doing it.” All transit is subsidized, so why not rail?
There are two glaring problems with this lame reasoning:
1. All transportation is NOT necessarily subsidized. User fees more than cover the federal cost of roads.
2. The DEGREE of the subsidy varies dramatically by mode of transportation.
Properly measured per passenger mile, one finds the
the subsidies vary dramatically by mode of transportation.
Check out the study from the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
The Wheels Come Off High Speed Rail
FINALLY major MSM has started reporting the bogus nature of the HSR projections that suckered the voters into approving the $10 billion CA HSR bond. Here’s an excellent article from the LA TIMES, no less!

(a better link to the article than going directly to the TIMES, and includes interesting comments)
Recently I posted a column here I wrote (published in two newspapers that I know of) about why terrorists will love CA HSR.
Naturally a couple HSR advocates engaged me in comments on Rostra, and a lively (if little read) online discussion has resulted.
Terrorists Will Love California’s High Speed Rail

On behalf of terrorists everywhere, let me say that high speed rail (HSR) is a Godsend to the Jihad (or whatever cause lights their fire).
A speeding “bullet train” will be like a plane flying at ground level at (supposedly) 220 MPH. At that velocity, if the train left the blown-up track, it would be like a plane coming down.
