Thunderous applause and a standing ovation that lasted several minutes…Ann Romney took the stage at 10:10 pm to a crowd in the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

From the outset, Ann Romney set the tone, detouring from the rousing political speeches that punctuated the night and grounding the crowd by speaking, she said, from her heart. Her speech was more like a dialogue with the crowd, a noticeable departure from the pep-rally mood that permeated the Forum.

Also noticeable was her appeal to women. A well-thought-out approach to a segment that polls lower in the Romney camp.

In the Forum, this was WARMLY received.

In the end, Ann Romney brought the crowd in to her world. A world grounded in normalcy. A world to which the average American can relate. Rather than expound on Mitt Romney the candidate, she brought home Mitt Romney the family man, the hard-working, moral and upstanding person who would serve the country with passion.

“Mitt Romney,” she said, “was not handed success – he BUILT it.”

And then, with the song, “My Girl” playing in the background…out strolled the candidate himself. Holding hands, they left the stage, only whetting the appetite of the now fervent crowd champing at the bit for a little Governor Chris Christie…

Ann Romney left to loving applause hand-in-hand with her sweetheart Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney at the Republican National Convention Tuesday as New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie took the stage preaching a different message: “respect over love.”

The juxtaposition of good cop, bad cop wasn’t lost on the critics.
