After a six month hiatus, the “SD Politico” website (Democratic) is back in business. They are respected here for their straight-forward approach, and expressing the thoughts of those Democrats who actually do some work, rather than just talk about it! As one set of professionals (GOP) to another, we tip our cap to Gracchus and his crew. AND they return with a newsbeat, that SD Councilwoman Sherri Lightner filed for a 2nd term yesterday. Here is the link: http://www.sandiegopolitico.com/2011/05/re-elect-sherri-lightner.html

Mr. Sills,
Your respect for the competition is admirable to a certain extent. But it does nothing to dispel the notion among my friends that the Republican and Democrat political establishments in San Diego are two branches of the same party. I am not saying that is actually true, but it is a powerful perception that drains enthusiasm for Republicans. On the other hand I can understand rewarding a competitor organization that plays fair, because so many do not, so this is a tough one for me.
I understand B-Daddy’s discomfort. Perhaps this will help.
First, of course, if ROSTRA were two branches of the same party, it wouldn’t have any Libertarian bloggers and might very likely suppress views critical of the Republican party. Neither is the case.
That said, Rostra is also a hodgepodge of political news, opinion, and sometimes rumor. Many readers are political watchers, already involved to some extent, often working in politics, government and the media. There is no fear that most readers, if they are directed to a competitor’s blog like SD Politico or Two Cathedrals, are going to come away from that “experience” having changed their political philosophy.
So, sometimes, it simply comes down to the political news that interests Rostra readers, as well as an expectation that credit is given where it’s due. SD Politico, rather quiet for some time, was the first with the news that Sherri Lightner is seeking reelection. Not a surprise, maybe, but political news nonetheless. It could have been noted here as Rostra’s own story, but that’s what the MSM sometimes does to blogs. That’s simply bad form.
In one brief post, Mr. Sills has provided the information about Lightner, noted that SD Politico had it first, and paid a respectful tip of the hat to a philosophical competitor, which by it’s apparent rebirth may be of interest to our readers in the future — whether they agree with much of it’s content or not.
Nicely done, Jim.
Thank you, Barry. The return of SD Politico is a positive for people interested in politics, Right or Left since it means
there’ll be more locally-based news coverage and comment.
One of the advantages our side often has, is that we are quite willing to read and think over what the other team is saying.

Facts to which I and other Rostrafarians in the Tiny Libertarian Conspiracy can personally attest.
Congratulations to SD Politico!
