As thousands of San Diegans rush to meet the deadline to pay their taxes, Mayoral candidate Carl DeMaio announced last night at his annual “Tax Day BBQ” that his campaign has received the endorsement of the National Tax Limitation Committee. DeMaio is also the choice for Mayor of San Diego Tax Fighters and the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association.
“Carl DeMaio has been San Diego’s taxpayer watchdog for many years – fighting against tax increases and shining a light on wasteful government spending,” noted Lew Uhler, President of NTLC.
Uhler cited DeMaio’s leadership of the campaign to defeat Prop D in 2010, as well as his leadership in 2012 in authoring Prop B on Pension Reform, as the driving reasons behind his organization’s endorsement.
“As Mayor, he will stand up for taxpayers in every decision and reform city government to give San Diegans a better return on their tax dollars,” Uhler said.
In 2010, DeMaio built a grassroots coalition and led the campaign to defeat Prop D – the half-a-billion dollar sales tax increase proposed by city politicians and downtown special interests. DeMaio said at the time that tax increases were not needed if city leaders enacted reforms to the city pension system and budget.
“On this Tax Day 2012, let’s remember that San Diegans are taxed too much, and receive too little from government in return for those taxes,” DeMaio said. “I’m running for Mayor to keep taxes low and make sure San Diegans receive every bit of benefit from the taxes they already pay,” DeMaio pledged.
