As Mayor, public safety and keeping our communities safe is my number one priority. I have always been a fierce advocate for Chula Vista’s First Responders and the employees that are a critical component in supporting our first responders in doing their job well.

When you call 9-1-1 for Chula Vista Police, the first person you will talk to will be a police dispatcher. The dispatcher will assist you in getting you the right help and many times work to dispatch a police officer with the best information. Since they are the first one you talk to, they have many times been considered “First! First! Responders”

I supported efforts to modernize and remodel the Chula Vista’s Police Dispatch Center in 2018. I also recently successfully fought and led efforts to support Chula Vista Police Dispatchers to implement competitive wages to retain current dispatchers and attract new dispatch employees.

Competitive Pay for our Protectors

As a four-term City Councilmember and four-time Deputy Mayor, I made public safety a priority by supporting the plan to hire more police, increasing the number of officers from 200 to over 270. Under my guidance, Chula Vista doubled the number of police patrols and implemented police body-worn cameras (increasing transparency), thereby making the City of Chula Vista one of the Top 10 Safest Cities with a population of over 200,000 in the United States.

Now as Mayor, one of my most important legislative priorities is to ensure competitive salaries for those officers who protect our community every day.

Our police officers are doing a great job protecting the city, and I am determined to keep it that way.

Join the Team

Chula Vista is currently hiring dispatchers, police recruits, and peace officers. The City also has a lot of different opportunities, such as community service officer, property & evidence specialist, and police records specialist. There are several volunteer opportunities available like reserve police officers, the cadet program, senior volunteer patrol, and the citizen’s adversity support team.
