The item below is a compelling “Exhibit A” for convincing Republicans, Libertarians, and perhaps many “Decline to State” and AIP voters to support and contribute to the Steve Rosen campaign for the San Diego Unified School District Board.
http://www.rosenforschools.com/

(As the San Diego political cognizanti know, Steve made the runoff by a tight margin, beating the complacent incumbent for the second runoff spot. He faces a spirited contest culminating in this November’s election.)

I’m making a small contribution today — and I seldom contribute to candidates in general and to school board candidates in particular.

I met Steve very briefly and heard him speak — and I was suitably impressed. Clearly he offers the rare, intelligent, innovative voice of reform — something feared by the education labor unions and educrats. He’d be the odd school board member who actually WOULD put the needs of the children before the the “needs” of the district employees and the construction labor unions.

The email/Facebook posting below is from Rosen’s teacher opponent — Kevin Beiser. Beiser has a fundraiser scheduled (somehow I’m invited), and here are the four sponsors of the event listed in HIS email:

Hon. Toni Atkins
SD City Councilmember Todd Gloria
The Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund
The San Diego Democratic Club

These are all uber-liberal individuals or outfits. Clearly, this guy is the labor union’s anointed candidate. I’m sure the list of campaign contributions Beiser received for the June primary — coupled with IE (independent expenditures) on his campaign — back this up.

In this race, the line is clearly drawn.

NOTE: We Libertarians don’t give a hoot about whether or not a candidate is gay, but we care VERY much about what a politician will do for us or (more likely) TO us once elected. This gay organization (presumably a PAC) doubtless backs ONLY progressives, socialists and liberals. I doubt they are holding any fundraisers for Carl DeMaio!

  1. Thank you Mr. Rider! People need to see him for who he really is….another union first, not kids first, candidate.

    Go Steve!

Richard, you might be right. Maybe I DID waste my money on Rosen — in that Beiser is the favorite in the race, and doubtless will get hundreds of thousands of dollars in labor union support — plus an army of union “volunteers.” Thank goodness I have no kids left in city schools.

That being said, I’m looking forward to massacring the district’s parcel tax prop, which will be on the ballot this November. That one we WILL win. And it just might anger taxpayers enough to get Rosen elected instead of Beiser.

  3. Just a reminder…Beiser received 14,344 votes. 22,633 voted against him. People are smart and they will be able to read through this labor union candidate, who does nothing but lie, over and over again.

Sent my contribution to Rosen today.

Let me know where I can contribute to the anti-parcel tax campaign.

  4. And a reminder from Rostra. We are not here of course to defend liberal candidates, but let’s reiterate we do believe in above board discussion. That said, we don’t buy that a candidate is automatically a liar simply because he/she is backed by unions and/or liberal politicians. Indeed, there are plenty of liberal candidates that are blatantly honest about where they stand!

So, it may be someone’s opinion that so-and-so is a liar, but without offering proof or at least a reason for the opinion, then it is nothing more than name-calling. If a candidate is in a commenter’s opinion untruthful, it would do us all good to understand why they feel that way.

  5. Mr. Rider and GOP Mother of Three, take heart. Steve Rosen
is running a professional campaign, and his fiscal conseva-
tism contrasts well with Beiser’s obligations to the feed-me-
    first public employee unions.

Beiser’s chances of winning the runoff ended when Rosen
eliminated incumbent Nakamura in the primary.

  6. re Thor”s assistant comment. I’d like to remind people of the likes of mainstream liberals making baseless cheep shots at republicans. Such as Matt Damon’s comments of Sara Palin, Paul McCartney of George Bush, and pretty much every liberal of Carrie Prejean….correction Carrie Boeller. We are better than that.

  7. Here are three reasons I will be voting for Kevin Beiser Math Teacher of the Year, for School Board in November,

    1) Excellence in Education: Kevin is an AWARD winning math teacher, and was also voted “Most Inspirational teacher of the year” and “Most caring teacher of the year” but the Students at Granger Junior High School where he teaches. –exactly the kind of person we need on the school board!
    2) Kevin is Fiscally Responsible: Kevin brings 12 years of experience in the private sector where he worked for a fortune 500 company as the NW United States Regional Manager responsible for multi-million dollar budgets.
    3) I have met Kevin Beiser, and I have never met a more honest, kind, and caring individual who has always put the needs of the children he teaches, first.

Finally, if Mr Rider had actually taken the same minimal time, to speak to Kevin, “I met Steve very briefly” (posted by Richard Rider, Saturday, July 3, 2010, San Diego Rostra) maybe at least then his rhetoric would have had more weight and not just sound like the same right-wing anti-labor, anti-education, anti-teacher, and anti-tax blah blah blah that is so prevalent in our society today. Mr Rider may have been surprised at how many great ideas Kevin has on how we can improve education for all our children in San Diego.

  8. The key for voters is NOT who a candidate appears to be, or pretends to be (experience has taught us all that such impressions can be an unreliable indicator), but who BACKS the candidate. And the backers I listed above are all to the far left of center. Looking at a candidate’s backers is a GREAT way to judge the true political leanings of a candidate — in either direction.

Besides, is it really a good idea to elect labor union members to decide what the pay and benefits should be for labor unions members in the same occupation? I think not. Remember, labor costs constitute over 80% of a district’s budget. And it doesn’t matter if the elected union members are working in the district.

San Miguel Fire District is run by fire fighters and their spouses — and it’s not going well at all. All they can think of is raising taxes. Gee, what a surprise!

Thanks for playing, anonymous “moderate Jim.” You’ve never posted here before, and it’s likely that you’re are a labor union toady pushing your candidate.

Your disdain for anyone who consistently opposes tax increases tells us much about your viewpoint. I suspect your true political leanings are quite the opposite of the limited government preferences of the readers of this list. You fool no one.

  9. “12 years of experience in the private sector where he worked for a fortune 500 company as the NW United States Regional Manager responsible for multi-million dollar budgets.”

I’d like some clarification and verification on his “business” experience. Can anyone shed some light and specifics on this?

Many years ago, I worked for a “Fortune 500 company” and with “multi-million dollar” equipment. I also won an award. Hey, maybe I could join a union and run for elected office using these same qualifications.

Then again, I was a teenager at McDonald’s churning out burgers, fries and shakes. I was “employee of the week” once and had my name and picture hanging in a frame next to Ray Kroc. I never signed a pay check either, but I guess that shouldn’t prevent me from repackaging my experience so it looks like I did more than I actually did.

  10. Mr. Rider claimed that it is likely that I’m a “labor union toady”, this is as likely as Mr. Rider being a corporate toady pushing the interests of the wealthy, which I know is not true. I understand Mr. Rider’s passion for his ideology and respect that. Unfortunately Mr. Rider’s passions about his positions has led him to call into question Mr. Beiser’s motivations and the content of his character. I support Mr. Beiser because I have spoken to him and believe in his vision for the future of the SDUSD, and wanted to give the readers of Rostra a reason to take a closer look at a candidate that I support. A candidate and that I believe has the skills in business and the classroom to make good use of the limited resources that the SDUSD has to improve education in San Diego. Mr. Beiser “appears” to be exactly what he is, a hard working, award winning math teacher trying to do his best to help the children of San Diego. Mr. Rider is correct that we need limited Government at all levels, and I strongly concur. There are a host of things to cut starting with the thousands of bonus’ paid out to federal employees each year and the employees that administer those bonus’, as well as the hundreds of billions in tax-payer dollars used to bailout corporations which instead should have been used to give small business’ tax cuts to spur growth and hiring in these trouble economic times. “Faith” can visit Kevinbeiser.com to get all the information she seeks concerning Mr. Beiser’s business experience. I am sure after that Faith will not equate her time at Micky D’s with Mr. Beiser’s business acumen. In closing I would like to sincerely thank the staff of Rostra for allowing me the opportunity to share my thoughts. I respect the rights of all Americans to speak freely, but I regret when that right is used to call into question the motivations and character of a Good man without so much as a shred of truth to support that claim. Not everyone running for office in this Great Nation has a sinister ulterior motive, and I truly believe there are those of us that want to give to our Country by giving of themselves, as I know Mr. Rider and millions of other Americans have done, and continue to do everyday. Respectfully, Jim

  11. Jim,

Thanks for providing the info for Kevin Beiser’s website. Unfortunately, after reviewing his list of endorsements, I cannot support him.

I am very open-minded and there are many Democrats who I may not agree with but do respect. However, Lori Saldana and Mary Salas are two who have proven to me from their time in office that they don’t know what they’re doing and have no business holding elected office and managing billions of dollars. Based on their endorsement of Beiser, I will look at the alternative. Please note, there are many Republicans I do not agree with and/or respect either.

Also, for what it’s worth, his website does not shed any real light on his business experience.

  12. The Beiser website only states: “Kevin worked for several years in business management gaining valuable experience balancing budgets, making payroll and identifying opportunities to reduce expenses.”

This info certainly doesn’t provide any details nor does it come close to being the corporate titan “Moderate Jim” tried to foist on us. However, I received some additional news this morning about Mr. Beiser’s “business” background.

Apparently, the school board candidate being championed by labor is actually a former Walmart employee who managed a photo center within the superstore. This info was supposedly divulged by Mr. Beiser himself at a candidate forum but I have not yet been able to verify it. However, some comments on other blog pages refer to this experience. There is also a record of a donation he made to John Kerry in 2004 when he was in “retail management” at Linens N Things.

If true, the public should seriously question if Mr. Beiser and his supporters are trying to mislead voters by misrepresenting the extent of his “business management” experience. I certainly don’t want “Mr. Whipple” in charge of a $2 billion school district budget.

  13. Kinda like my friend in high school who wrote in the yearbook that he wanted to work for a large nationwide corporation with thousands of affiliates. He now does…the Southland Corporation, as a 7-11 clerk.

  14. Faith shoots, and she Scores !

Faith 2, moderate Jim 0, and still
    in the first period.
