SD Rostra’s Marie Waldron has been named Assemblyman Martin Garrick’s “Woman of the Year” today, a prestigious Honor made annually by members of the California State Assembly. Marie is Deputy Mayor of Escondido, and won a landslide re-election victory in November. “I am very pleased to honor Marie as my Woman of the Year,” Garrick said today. “She has clearly demonstrated her passion for improving her community through her work in local government and civic organizations. North County San Diego is lucky to count her among its residents.”……. To which her fellow Rostrafarians emphatically respond, “Attagirl, Marie!” 🙂
Marie Waldron and her husband Steve own and operate Top End Tees in Escondido and are extremely active in the local business community. Waldron cited this experience as a catalyst for her community involvement.
“As a small business owner and local city councilwoman I’ve been proud to help lead the fight to make California friendly to small business and jobs again. I am honored to have received this award from Assemblyman Garrick and I know that he shares my belief that getting California back to work is the real solution to our budget problems,” said Waldron.
……….Details on the Woman of the Year Honor
The annual Woman of the Year Ceremony is presented by the California Legislative Women’s Caucus and will be held March 21st in the Assembly Chamber. Waldron will travel to Sacramento to receive a congratulatory resolution during the ceremony.

I don’t want to read too much in this but Waldron has been making calls for state assembly. Does this mean Garrick backs her over his own district director Sherry Hodges?

Escondido deputy Mayor Marie Waldron, a perennial favorite of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association – PAC, was just named “Woman of the Year” by Assemblyman Martin Garrick in an announcement from his legislative offices. Waldron is considered a top contender to succeed Garrick, who will be term-limited in the 2012 election in a reconfigured district; Waldron’s receiving such top honors from the incumbent in this northern San Diego county district are surely a big boost to her prospects.
Rumor has it a well known Republican self funder from Encinitas or thereabouts is also looking to run.
Wait a second this doesnt make sense maybe Garrick is supporting both. Sherry’s been clear that Garrick is supporting her.
Sherry Hodges left Garrick’s office months ago to work for an Orange County Assemblywoman. Barry Jantz had the whole story on Rostra at the time.
Here ’tis. Thanks, Ghost of RR…

BTW, the list of endorsements Sherry is touting does not include Garrick, as Barry pointed out in his piece.
At the big Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce last week Assemblyman Garrick could not have been more clear he did not endorse Hodges. There was also talk among a few of the people there who have talked to Hodges about how she answers the question of whether Garrick has endorsed her. Her answer implies his support.
