Today I released my “Save Our Streets Action Plan.” This plan sends out an “S.O.S.” to city leaders to make road repair a priority once again and presents seven major reforms to achieve the quality of roads that we deserve.

Beginning with an “Infrastructure Lock Box Fund” that would set aside up to $497 million over the next five years specifically for road repairs without any tax or fee increases, this plan lays out reforms to the organizational and management structure at the city, improvements to the city’s street warranty policy, closing loopholes, and enacting tougher penalties on those who damage our roadways.
The “Save Our Streets Action Plan” is a package of proposals that San Diego desperately needs. If you have additional ideas on how we can Save Our Streets, I would love to hear your feedback. Email me at carl@carldemaio.com.

San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio unveiled the latest in his plans to improve the city, this one aimed at road repairs.

The mayoral hopeful announced his “Save Our Streets Action Plan” to focus on street improvements after years of deferred maintenance.

DeMaio had previously rolled out other alliterative plans, such as the “Roadmap to Recovery” to address the city’s budget deficits and the “Pathway to Prosperity,” which seeks to spur job growth in the region.

The highlight of DeMaio’s newest plan is for the city to make a commitment to an annual payment toward fixing city streets without raising taxes or increasing fees.

The budget for street repair is $26 million, but DeMaio hopes to increase that exponentially over the next five years.

The money for the repairs would come by mandating a certain percentage of the city’s revenue growth go to street maintenance. DeMaio predicted his proposal could generate more than $335.2 million in his proposed five-year time span.
