Sara Jacobs Fights The “Crusty Old Marines” ; Nathan Fletcher Says Nothing

29-year old heiress Sara Jacobs is running for the House of Representatives in the 49th District (Issa).  She is famous for being Irwin Jacobs granddaughter, a stint as a junior staffer in the State Department, and volunteering for Hillary Clinton’s campaign.  Clinton must have taught her how to insult “the little people: she intends to represent.

At another event, when she’s asked about how she’ll fare with the district’s large military population — especially given that one of her opponents, Doug Applegate, is a retired Marine colonel — her candor makes for an awkward moment. “It’s true,” she says, “I’m not a crusty old Marine.” The group is mostly silent

The 49th District does have some pretty tony neighborhoods along the coast (Del Mar, Carlsbad, Dana Point) but it’s a gritty District,  Camp Pendelton is smack dab in the middle of it and every street has at least one home flying a  USMC flag alongside an American flag.  There are plenty of Audis on the Interstate Five but there are more F-150s.  Congressman Issa, while he is the richest member of Congress, did well in the District because he’s gritty–he earned his fortune by building a business, like Sara Jacobs’ grandfather did

The real news to me though isn’t that some trust fund kid from Hillary Clinton’s camp put her foot in her mouth.  The real news is the absence of criticism from Marine veteran, conservative Republican-turned-Maverick Independent-turned-Progressive Democrat Nathan Fletcher.

Why won’t Fletcher defend “crusty old Marines” like he did years ago ?

Maybe because Sara’s grandfather has Nathan in his back pocket
