“As my op-ed mentions in today’s U-T San Diego, Kevin and I were faced with a difficult challenge of righting the city’s financial problems,” Sanders said. “To address this enormous problem, Kevin and I worked tirelessly to reverse reckless spending habits and implement substantial, productive changes for the long-term vitality of our city. The fact is it took hard work, dedication and leadership to move our city past the ‘Enron by the Sea’ label. Kevin’s leadership on the City Council led to many of the changes that are poised to transform our city.
“Some candidates sit back and criticize what was and wasn’t done to fix City Hall and improve our neighborhoods. It’s always easier to say — rather than do — especially when you’re not part of the everyday fight,” Sanders added. “Kevin Faulconer didn’t just talk about problems. Kevin has been a leader who took action and created solutions.”
Faulconer said: “Jerry Sanders and I created programs to rebuild our city’s reputation, take back our tax dollars, and start investing them in neighborhood improvements. Now, it’s time to roll up our sleeves and do it again.
“The next mayor must work day and night to finish the job Jerry Sanders and I started. I will work hard for you every day because it’s what you deserve.”
