Putting Partisanship Over the Safety of Women
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, July 18, 2013
SAN DIEGO — On Thursday evening, the San Diego County Democratic Party convened to determine whether they would call on Mayor Bob Filner to resign after multiple allegations of sexual harassment came to light in the past week.
With their failure to do so, Democrats have failed to protect the women of San Diego that continue to be in danger of new harassment and retaliation for speaking up against unwanted sexual advances.
Executive Director Francis Barraza said: “As a woman, I am horrified not only at the tales coming out of the Mayor’s Office, but the admissions of leaders in the Democratic Party that they knew about Bob Filner’s behavior all along.”
“This should not be a partisan issue and the Democratic Party should not be protecting someone who has been called ‘tragically unsafe for any woman to approach’ by Donna Frye.”
“By failing to act, Democrats have shown that they care more about preserving political power than standing up for women who have been victimized. San Diego deserves better,” Barraza concluded.
