As a result of Tuesday’s election…
1. Peruta vs. Gore News. The court case brought against San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore and his horrible concealed weapon permit policies has new life as a result of last night’s election. Once Trump takes office and nominates a Supreme Court Justice, NRA/CRPA will escalate the case to the Supreme Court to force Gore to issue permits. This morning I asked NRA attorney and CRPA chairman Chuck Michel if they would now appeal and his response was “almost certainly”. The NRA is also working on a concealed carry case in Washington D.C. as well. Trump’s Supreme Court nominee is crucial.
2. Around San Diego…Who Won? SDCGO endorsed and supported a number of candidates. For representing gun owners and winning their race, I am proud to congratulate:
– Richard Bailey, Mayor of Coronado!
– Keith Blackburn, Carlsbad City Council!
– Amanda Rigby, Vista City Council!
– Jack Feller, Oceanside City Council!
– Mike Diaz, Chula Vista City Council!
– Kristine Alessio, La Mesa City Council!
– Mike Morasco, Escondido City Council!
– Jim Miller, Cajon Valley School Board!
– Dane White, Escondido Union High School!
– Lee DeMeo, Fallbrook Union High School!
SDCGO endorsed and volunteered for Scott Sherman for San Diego City Council who won his race outright in June!
We proudly endorsed some who worked hard and represented us well, but came up short in the race. Thank you for your hard work and dedication:
– Jason Paguio in Chula Vista
– Rob McNelis in Santee
– Dustin Trotter in Santee
– Mason Herron in Santee
– Dr. Linda Gonzales in Oceanside
– Joe Garcia in Escondido
– Michael Summers in Lemon Grove
I am proud of the way all the candidates we endorsed conducted their campaigns. We endorsed some truly great people; especially when compared to their opponents. Our endorsed candidates all chose the high road and worked hard.
Our focus is restoring and protecting our Second Amendment, and the way to do it is with outstanding candidates like the ones we stood behind this year.
3. Honorable mention. A number of strong, pro-Second Amendment candidates won who we did not endorse for reasons like they were running against other pro-Second Amendment candidates, etc.
For example Joe Green is the newest city council member in Vista! I interviewed Joe about his Second Amendment opinions and he attended our Second Amendment Celebration Dinner on the USS Midway. Joe ran in a large group with other pro-Second Amendment candidates and won the second seat (the first won by Amanda Rigby). Congratulations Joe!
Mike Sannella, Hector Gastelum, Mark Robak, and Steve Robak are all strong Second Amendment supporters and are now on local water boards.
Barry Leonard in Poway won his City Council race and he is very strong on the Second Amendment issues according to reports from volunteers.
Pro Second Amendment Mayor Jim Wood was re-elected in Oceanside.
Nationally the news was great for gun owners. On the state level Prop 63 passed and a lot of bad gun candidates won their race. Locally, we did some good and for SDCGO existing for only a year, we did pretty well.
I am proud of what we did and am excited to build an organization that is unstoppable. There are two ways to win a race: money and people. We are going to make sure our candidates have both!
Thank you!
