2012 is just around the corner! ……… The Future is Always Now in San Diego Politics. Candidates are already lining up to run, including Rudy Reyes, a Santee educator who filed candidate intention papers recently to challenge Dianne Jacob in Supervisor District 2, based in scenic East County.
Mr. Reyes, a Democrat, also opposed Supervisor Jacob (Republican) in 2008 with backing of the San Diego County Democratic Party. He lost then by a decisive count of 69,753 to 20,035.
Mr. Reyes traces his political interest to the Cedar Fire of 2003, in which he suffered severe burns, after first assuring the safety of his family. He campaigned in 2008 on the need for reforms to prevent a repeat of that disastrous firestorm. He has worked as an archeologist and teacher.
Supervisor Jacob grew up in Jamul, serving several terms on the local school board before becoming a County Supervisor in January of 1993. She has passed up opportunities to seek state or federal office to concentrate instead on County services.
Stay tuned to SD Rostra for more on this, and other developing San Diego contests.
