Public safety v. Taxpayer

There’s a cartoon going around California recently that’s a discussion between a firefighter and a private sector employee. Simply put, it’s hysterical. There are two versions, one with cursing and one without. I’m linking the clean version but personally I think the one with cursing is much funnier.

The reason I enjoy the cartoon is that it speaks to the underlying truth in the ongoing debate throughout California and the US. We have reached a point where our frustration with bloated salaries, pensions, and perks largely out distances the ongoing respect we have for the police officers and firefighters.

To public safety officials I say: Yes, I know your jobs are inherently more dangerous than my office job. No, that does not mean that you get to determine what benefits you want. Anyways, enjoy the cartoon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_itVyZKmrM&feature=sub

Update.  After posting, I played around on YouTube.  This stopthemadnessnow has several videos up on Youtube including Jerry Sanders rapping about Prop D.  Check it out.

  1. Can anybody name a sdrosta blogger other than RR who has publicly voted against or spoke against this ridiculous compensation for the public employees?

I know that Jerome Stocks gave his union a 15% pay raise over the last 5 years and gave a 30% pension spike to the union in 2005.

  2. correction. That raise was over the last 4 years. Who signs a contract giving the union a raise FOR FOUR years as the economy starts to stumble? Who does that.

  3. Uhhh, yeah, several of the bloggers listed to the left have publicly done so, and a few of those have also voted that way as elected officials. Let’s start with DeMaio, as just one obvious example. What planet are you on?
