A survey of 577 “likely voters” in the City of San Diego shows Proposition D now trailing by a margin of 48% certain to vote NO, to just 29% certain YES. The results were published by KGTV Channel 10 and the Survey USA polling firm on October 8th.
The City schools tax measure (Prop, J) was also in trouble in this survey, with 46% certain to say NO, to just 24% certain YES.
Of note, Proposiiton D trails with both men and women, and among all ethnic groups. Strongest opposition comes from self-identified backers of the Tea Party movement (68% plan to vote NO).

The Yes on D folks are wheeling out the old “De Maio placed yard signs on opponents property” story. Seems a little like desperation to me.
I’m sure the final tally will be closer than these numbers. Still, this gives hope.

A half million dollar union-paid TV campaign will surely narrow the margin. But we should still win.
Not that we should slack off. The MARGIN of our victory (and their defeat) is important to the future actions of our awful city council majority — and mayor. If it’s close, they could be back with another tax increase as soon as next May (when some expect the state will hold a special election).
The old saw applies — “Send ’em a message.” And the message is to rein in city spending WITHOUT any tax increase.
