In an article posted today, Politico reports Carl DeMaio “is ditching his campaign for Congress to run for San Diego mayor.”
To be clear, the Politico article cites a “source with direct knowledge” of DeMaio’s decision.
That could be someone with direct knowledge, or someone Politico thinks has direct knowledge.
But it appears this is the first publication to report the DeMaio decision as fact.
Our take: All indications are the same. He’s in.

Oops…perhaps Politico needs to vet their own sources…that was one of the larger journalistic “swings and a miss” I have witnessed in a while.
It is feasible he did, in fact, change his mind at the last minute. Either the UT last ditch pitch editorial frightened him, or the GOP Leadership in San Diego, in convincing him, is prepared to throw away the Republican National Platform playbook in an attempt to “widen the aperture” while really throwing away the thousands of socially conservative Republicans they have been slowly diminishing and ignoring over the years.
Despite what some have said about DeMaio and other congressional prospects in the 52CD being “virtually the same,” that is about to crumble under its own intellectual ineptness.
As the Chinese say, “May you live in interesting times…”..It’s a curse…The Republican leadership, if in fact “supporting” DeMaio, clearly is leading us into “interesting times.”
