Faulconer Supporters Swamp OB Rag Mayoral Poll – Republicans Out Vote Democrats 2 to 1

Mayor Beats Both Harris and Saldana Combined in Apparent Spike in GOP Visitors to OB Rag

In an unusual – but not unknown – twist for an OB Rag poll, it appears that supporters of the main Republican candidate for San Diego mayor – incumbent Kevin Faulconer – swamped the mayoral poll over the weekend, skewing the results. In the final tally for the week-long poll, Faulconer had a higher total than both other major candidates combined.

Kevin Fauloner, in the end, had 59% of the votes, while Ed Harris had 18% and Lori Saldana 13%. Harris is a liberal Democrat and Saldana is a progressive independent.

These results do not reflect the usual political persuasions of OB Rag readers and poll-takers. For example, in one mayoral poll we conducted in November 2015, Faulconer garnered only 26% compared with a combined Democratic candidate vote of 70%.

  1. Of course Kevin Faulconer is popular and won this poll. He’s getting things done in San Diego. He’s paving roads, fixing potholes, reining in the bloated public pensions, and cutting red tape and regulations that destroy jobs. Back to basics improves the quality of the lives of the people of San Diego. Re-elect Kevin!

I love it that the leftists are whining and fighting among themselves. Maybe they need a hug or a safe space?!

  2. The lack of leadership is ongoing.

UnSheltered Homeless increased +19%, 350 Tent/Vet Homeless beds have been delated by unfunding program, while $28 million Housing cash hoarding in the bank.

+$2.4 million General Fund Expenses for 20+ Employees for Homeless Camp Sweeps and Abatement. = 18 Sanitation Department +1 Heavy Truck Driver + 2 PROSECUTING City Attorneys.

The +$2.4 million GF Increase does not include Police time or city labor or Material costs to install pointed rocks under the Freeway Underpasses.

Just like with the Pension mess, financial info is hidden by missing Post-Audit CAFRs for the Successor Agency and RDA Housing from FY-2011 to the Present.

Monday, May 26, 2016 as Item 201 the City will approve the Preliminary Official Statement (POS) Authorization for Water Bonds. However it can be considered reckless, negligent, and misleading to approve SEC Disclosure Documents, when $1.6 Billion in Successor Agency debt is missing from financial documents.

See Page 16 for Mayor Faulconer’s declaration:

“I hereby certify that, to the best of my knowledge, the Disclosure Documents does not make any untrue statement of a material fact or omit to state a material fact necessary in order to make the statements made, in light of the circumstances under which they were made, not misleading.”

  4. La Playa “1% rich elitist” Heritage, this haggling over nit picky points will play real well with the citizens of San Diego. Still Kevin in a landslide. You don’t have a clue what the average citizen cares about in San Diego.

  5. Dan,

Mayor Faulconer will win in a landslide, at least in part, because he supports gay marriage and a women’s right to choice and he signed the most ambitious climate action plan of any major city. There is no reason for Democrats to look for an alternative.

  6. Hypocrisy has spoken. Democrats for Faulconer. Landslide Kevin.

These points that you mention won’t contribute to Kevin’s election. In Kevin’s first mayoral victory, the gays overwhelmingly voted for Alvarez because they are natural leftists.

  7. Dan,

Were there actually any exit polls that showed “the gays overwhelmingly voted for Alvarez? Many of the gays I know, and as a leftist, of course I know a lot, voted for Faulconer.

  8. HQ,

A woman’s right to choose what?

Charter schools for her kids? How much pay to demand for her work? Whether to bake a cake for someone she disagrees with? Whether she can keep her doctor and her health plan?

These euphemisms! It’s almost as if you’re ashamed of what you claim to support!

  9. W.C.,

The same “what” our Republican Mayor believes a woman should have the right to choose.

  10. HQ,

I suspect Faulconer supports many more rights to choose for women than Nancy Pelosi or Debbie Wasserman-Schulz does.

And I haven’t been able to find using a cursory Google search a case of Faulconer trivializing abortion as “choice.”

  11. WC,

Google “Kevin Faulconer Pro Choice” and you will find a multitude of articles that describe the Mayor as “pro-choice” and point out that his campaign has even described him in those exact words. Like you, I didn’t find a citation in which Faulconer called himself pro-choice, but I assume that is what he considers himself. Unless you think maybe he would prefer pro abortion?

  12. Hypocrisy: I don’t know who you were talking to. Maybe you were talking to yourself. As this voting map shows, the “gay” areas of San Diego voted heavily for Alvarez. This was a map of how each precinct voted for Mayor.

I guess it was the old bait and switch. Kevin should realize that the gays are NOT his supporters and did NOT vote for him. He invested a lot of time and political capital in 4% of the San Diego voting population only to have them stab him in the back. He needs to drop them like a hot potato and focus on groups who support him.

You can’t put lipstick on this pig Hypocrisy.

  13. Daniel,

I thought my comment was obviously made tounge-in-cheek. Sorry you missed that. On a serious note, many in the LGBT community live outside of Hillcrest; you may even have some where you live.

The point I was trying to make is that Mayor Faulconer supports many positions that would usually be considered left-wing. I assume he does this because it is what he truly believes. I do know he has significant Democratic support because of those positions.

  14. Hypocrisy: LOL. I give you overwhelming evidence that the gays were in the tank for Alvarez and you ignore it. At least be honest and admit it.

Kevin only has Democrat support now in this election because they know Ed Harris and Lori Saldana are weak candidates with bad ideas, and no support. These fair-weather Democrats have no loyalty and are falling all over themselves to be on the winning side, Kevin Faulconer. Kevin in a landslide. I expect you to kiss up to Kevin too because you want to be on the winning side.

The gays did not support Kevin in the first election. Take a good look at the actual voting map and notice that all the areas of heavy gay concentration, Downtown, South Park, North Park, and Hillcrest to name a few, voted heavily David Alvarez. He needs to ignore these cynical leftists who wasted his time and attention during his first 2 years as Mayor. They are NOT his supporters.

  15. Dan,

One of our major problems today is that most of our elected officials think that they are only obligated to represent the interests of those who voted for them. In reality, a true leader would do his/her best to balance the interests of all his/her constituents. Our Mayor fortunately understands this and hence is popular among all demographics.

  16. Slick Hypocrisy, slick. You’re a born-again Kevin supporter! Miracles never cease! Better pray that the SD Democrat Politburo doesn’t find you.
