More Weird – This Time Jerry Kern

The bizarre financing of Randy Voepel’s campaign for State Assembly, which includes the San Diego Group consultants John Wanio, Mason Herron, and Asher Burke funneling a total of $21,000 into Voepel’s campaign – while receiving no money for their services, seems to get weirder.

Though Jerry Kern decided to drop out of the race for 76th Assembly due to his “friend” Rocky Chavez pulling out of his quixotic campaign for U.S. Senate, it is worth looking at the odd financing of his campaign, too.

Like Voepel, Kern also uses the San Diego Group and has similarly odd items on his disclosure.  As with Voepel, the San Diego Group received no compensation for their consulting services but the Wainio/Herron/Burke trio funneled $16,800 into Kern’s campaign.

What business model allows for a consultant to dump tens of thousands into their clients’ campaigns but receive no compensation for their services?
