In reading the crosstabs of a professional poll, you expect to see some differences among ethnic, economic and gender groupings.
But the poll released this week by “Rasmussen Reports” reveals a STUNNING difference when Men and Women voters are asked about the race for Governor.
When matched against likely Democrat nominee Jerry Brown, Republican Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner leads Mr. Moonbeam among MEN by an impressive 48% to 32% !
Meg Whitman, meanwhile, leads state Attorney General Brown among Men by a lesser margin: 42 to 37%.
But just look at how different the figures are among Women voters:
Poizner trails Brown with women voters by 55% to 20%! Meg Whitman does a little better, but Brown lstill hammers her among women 49% to 29%.
So we have the proverbial Good News- Bad News situation: (1) Men want to keep a check on an ultra-liberal state legislature with a GOP Governor. (2) But Women are ready to vote for the slightly eccentric Jerry Brown.
In the year ahead, Poizner and Whitman need to explain, in clear language, why 1970s Moonbeam liberalism is bad for Families, students and women in business…. It can be done.
Poll details: conducted 09/24/2009 among 500 randomly selected likely voters. Among ALL voters Jerry Brown leads Whitman 44-35, and Poizner by 45-32.
