You won’t see it on the Secretary of State’s candidate website yet, but Assemblyman Marty Block (D) has competition for his party’s SD 39 nomination from Patrick Marsh of University City, who has filed initial papers.

OTHER NEW NAMES SURFACING are… (1)  Karen Otter (D) opposing Rostra‘s own Assemblyman Brian Jones (R)  in AD 71 … (2) Glenn Bernard (R) now the 4th candidate in AD 76 (joining Rocky Chavez, Sherry Hodges and Farrah Douglas) … and (3) Richard Eiden (D) and Jerome Tetalman (D) seeking to oppose Darrell Issa (R) in CD 49.

SD Rostra can bring you this news now thanks to the SD County Registrar of Voters office, which makes filing of Candidate Petition requests available to the public.  A tip of the Rostra Hat to Registrar Deborah Seiler for her commitment to transparency!

AD 71 … Karen Otter is an East County  businesswoman, who ran for Congress in 2006, losing the Democratic primary to eventual nominee John Rinaldi.  Rep. Duncan Hunter Sr. was re-elected over Rinaldi in November of 2006.   Brian Jones is the Incumbent Assembly member in AD 71.

CD  49 … Democratic challenger Richard Eiden is a Vista activist and attorney who has spoken out on immigration and education.   Jerome Tetalman (D) of Carlsbad is president of Tetalman Inc. which focuses on real estate.  The incumbent congressman is conservative icon Darrell Issa (R).

AD 76 … Glenn Bernard (R) is a former candidate for Mayor of Carlsbad, who finished third in a bid vs. longtime Mayor Claude (Buddy) Lewis back in 2006.

  1. Jim,

Thanks for the update and remember there are no Party nominations; these are all open primaries.

  2. Candidates have the option of listing their party preference, or omitting them, under this system. Both Mr. Marsh and Mr. Block chose to Identify themselves as Democrats.

For all practical purposes, they will compete for the support of Democratic voters and interest groups in the 39th’s June primary election.

  3. Jim,

Fair enough, but just like we may see in some strong-Republican districts, the general election may be between two members of the same party.

  4. This hallucination is the end of the story, omitting other than by reference, the beginning and middle.

That is an interesting philosophical point.
