Issa Sells out Religious Liberty and Endangers the Safety of Women

I am a bit surprised to see Congressman Darrel Issa climb aboard the Trump train. While he likes to send out press releases that make him look like the second coming of Ronald Reagan, his Congressional voting record is simply not as conservative as he wants people to believe. Indeed, his most recent Conservative Review rating for 2015 is only 59 percent. He voted wrong nearly 40% of time on issues dear to conservatives.

Issa is really a creature of the GOP establishment, the same establishment that Trump rails against. A classic example of his establishment credentials is his recent vote in favor of the “Maloney Amendment,” which codifies one of Obama’s many illegal executive orders, this one barring private businesses from performing contract work for the Federal government if they engage in “discrimination” on the basis of “sexual orientation and gender identity” in their private employment policies.

The executive order – which was never voted on by Congress in 2014 – will force businesses to allow men to use women’s bathrooms and showers. It will force private adoption agencies to adopt children out equally to homosexual parents. Many legal experts believe that this order will even be used to force businesses to adopt “gender-neutral” language since “he,” “she” and other gender specific pronouns supposedly create a “hostile environment.” The codification of this executive order is a gift to the homosexual legal groups which hope to launch yet another onslaught of legal attacks on the business world and upon the First Amendment.

This comes on the heels of yet another Obama executive order that forces all colleges to open female bathrooms and showers to men who have “female feelings.” I’m still waiting for Issa to speak out against this abuse of executive authority. Remember, congressional Republicans control the budget but no effort has ever been made to cut the funding for the Department of Justice, the agency charged with carrying out many of these illegal executive orders.

Issa was one of 43 Republican congressmen to vote for the Maloney Amendment, and along with the failure of the Republicans to fight any of Obama’s anti-Christian and unconstitutional executive orders, such inaction is exactly why Donald Trump is as popular as he is. Granting legal force to the homosexual and “transgendered” agenda is an appalling sell-out of GOP principles. Americans should be free to contract with the government without penalty due to their religious beliefs about a lifestyle many believe are in conflict with their moral beliefs. The basic impact of this order is to ban a large sector of the faith community from doing business with the federal government. So transsexuals can now force themselves into women’s bathrooms and bible-believing Christians can no longer do business with our government. This is how Obama is transforming America.

The Obama era has unleashed an onslaught upon religious liberty due to the First Amendment being undermined by a body of law based upon sexual practices never proven to be genetic. The left loves to compare homosexuality and transgenderism to race but there’s no such comparison. Race is genetic, homosexuality is not. None of the medical or psychological professional organizations will proclaim homosexuality or transgenderism to be genetic. These behaviors remain, as scores of studies have shown, to be highly addictive behaviors usually traced to traumatic incidents during one’s youth. It is not a coincidence that the vast majority of homosexuals were molested or abused in their youth. These people need help, not empowerment.

By codifying such laws based upon this type of behavior, Issa is contributing to the creation of a legal climate that places the practice of such behavior above religious liberty. Already, dozens of lawsuits targeting Christian schools, adoption agencies, florists, bakers, etc. have been initiated in the aftermath of the Obergfell Supreme Court Decision. This decision gave the green light to well-funded gay legal groups to destroy what’s left of the First Amendment. The ultimate goal, of course, is the shutting down of churches that preach homosexual behavior is a sin and forcing all Christian private schools to hire homosexual teachers, which will lead to many of them closing their doors. This should be appalling not just to Christians but to libertarians and all who believe in freedom and small government.

While Issa and the other 42 RINO Republicans may think of themselves as “civil right” heroes, they are, in reality, simply pawns in the gay legal strategy to gut the First Amendment, destroy America’s Christian heritage, and grow the power of the Federal government. Issa may be a smart businessman, but he’s dumb as a doorknob when it comes to the culture war, which I doubt he even knows we are in the midst of fighting.

Indeed, as I write this piece, bills are working their way through the California Legislature that will force all private Christian schools to hire homosexual teachers and to comply with the transgendered agenda – such as allowing males in live in female dorms with a female roommate. Failure to do so will result in a cut-off of any state financial aid any of the students may have. The bills are being called “Armageddon” by the Christian community as their passage will likely result in the end of private Christian education in California. Why hasn’t Congressman Issa spoken out about this? Does he not represent any Christians in his district? Or does he just care about the gay and “transgendered” community?

Already, the failure of Republicans like Issa to fight the left’s agenda is having a devastating impact upon our families and children. An eight-year-old girl was assaulted by a man in a bathroom last week in Chicago. A woman in Los Angeles was recently sexually assaulted by a man in public restroom. In Yolo, California, another man was arrested for committed sodomy on a minor in library restroom. Indeed, men entering bathrooms to fondle, film or assault females are becoming epidemic. Here is a list of 50 bathroom incidents involving children and females. And it WILL get much worse.

The bigger issue is that Obama has transformed the Executive Branch into a corrupt, anti-constitutional branch which seems to have no fear of Congress. Indeed, Congressman Issa was chairman of the House’s Government Oversight Committee from January, 2011 to November, 2014, and he held dozens of hearings on Obama’s numerous scandals and illegal Executive Branch actions. Issa sent out hundreds of press releases and he for a while he appeared everywhere in the media crowing about how he will hold Obama and his appointees accountable. The problem is, no one was held accountable; no one has gone to prison and no one has even been charged with any crimes. The Republican majority has allowed perhaps the most criminal administration in history to do anything they want without any consequences. And the point man was Congressman Issa.

The Obama administration tampered with the 2012 elections by using the IRS to silence around 500 conservative/tea party groups; they lied about many aspects of Obama care; they misled Americans about the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi; they gave hundreds of automatic weapons to drug cartels that were used to kill hundreds of people on both sides of the border, including at least one border patrol agent. But no one has been held accountable.

Indeed, most of these scandals were exposed not by Issa’s committee, but instead by a tiny watchdog group called Judicial Watch, which, as a private group, has been far more successful in exposing the corruption and holding people accountable; the Issa committee can only dream about such success. Sure, Issa’s committee did hold in contempt Attorney General Eric Holder and IRS official Lois Lerner, but big deal. Neither has served a second in jail nor been held accountable in any way for their gross illegal actions.

Indeed, the Obama era was the perfect opportunity for the House Republicans to return to the constitutional idea of three equal branches that are able to hold each other accountable. As any constitutional scholar will tell you, the House actually has the power to not only subpoena people but to arrest them, bring them forcibly to congress, try them for crimes and even jail them.

In 1795, shortly after the Constitution was ratified, the Congressional Sergeant of Arms arrested and detained two men accused of bribing members of Congress. The house held a trial and convicted one of them. A few years later, the famous Sam Houston was arrested by the Sergeant of Arms for assaulting a Congressman. He was also tried by the House. In 1833, legendary Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story wrote that the power to arrest people and forcibly bring them to Congress is necessary “for either house to perform its constitutional functions.”

Indeed, the Supreme Court in 1821 upheld the right of congress to imprison those who ignored contempt orders. During the 1927 Teapot Dome scandal, the House arrested people for refusing to testify. In April, 2014, the Congressional Research Service released a report that said that “under the inherent contempt power the individual is brought before the house or senate by the sergeant of arms, tried at the bar of the body, and can be imprisoned or detained n the capital or perhaps elsewhere.”

As the chairman of the Government Accountability Committee in the midst of such a criminal regime, Issa had the opportunity to restore the Legislative Branch to its rightful place by exercising its constitutional right to arrest, try, convict and even jail those who refuse to testify such as Lois Lerner. But Issa appears to have taken orders from the Congressional Republican leadership that was and is more concerned with getting along with Obama than holding him and his hacks accountable.

This is why 13,000 San Diegans attended the Trump rally at the Convention Center. Americans are tired of Republicans refusing to fight for our constitutional rights and allowing the Obama regime to destroy our freedoms. If Issa is not willing to stand up for the constitution, then he should resign his office. If you are in Issa’s congressional district, perhaps it is time to start monitoring how he is voting.

  1. Steve,

“the vast majority of homosexuals were molested or abused in their youth.” Please cite a reference for that claim.

  2. I’m not a bit surprised. Issa is more interested in the support he gets from his colleagues and leadership for his campaign than is in supporting principles.

  3. This whole post reads like something written 3 decades ago. The vast majority of Americans have friends or family who are LGBT. Every attack against LGBT people comes off as pure hatred slung at a friend or family member.

Please keep posting articles like this. Please keep posting videos of people such as yourself in a retail establishments screaming things such as “Jesus was not friends with homosexuals!” Please keep complaining about how you want to take LGBT taxpayer money and then refuse to provide them with the services those taxes pay for, yet are not being allowed to. And by all means, keep allowing yourself to be strung along by a Republican Party that slowly pivots towards being inclusive of LGBT people, such as with Carl DeMaio’s candidacy and Trump’s statement that transgender people “use the bathroom they feel is appropriate.”

  4. Giving a group of (marginalized) people a place to pee is not empowerment. Where in the New Testament is the basis for your opinions? What freedoms did Obama take from you?

  5. The Christian conservatives I talk to have no problem with homosexuals. Most of them, like me, believe in live and let live. Keep it in your bedroom. But don’t force it on us.

What we we don’t like and will continue to fight against are the constant attempts by homosexuals to make themselves special and a protected class putting their sexual choices ahead of our Constitutional right to freedom of religion. Fining bakers, florists, and photographers for not celebrating a homosexual union that is against their religious feelings is against our freedom of religion.

Our rights are protected by the Bill of Rights. Where in the Constitution are sexual choices protected?

Transwhatevers, you want to pee? If you were born a man and don’t want to pee in the men’s room, too bad, that’s your choice. Decent people don’t want a man in the restroom or locker room with their wife or daughter. Their safety is far more important than these wierdos. Give these wierdos a trans-wierdo restroom of their own. A mens room, a womens room, and a trans-wierdo room.

If Issa will not represent the will of the conservative Republican voters in his district, vote him out.

  6. Hypocrisy questioned wants references for my assertion that there’s a connection between homosexual behavior and the physical and sexual abuse of homosexuals during their youth. Yes, there is indeed a large body of scientific literature on this issue.

A 1998 article titled, Sexual Abuse of Boys, by Holmes and Slap in the American Medical Assn Journal, stated, “Abused adolescents, particularly those victimized by males, were up to 7 times more likely to self-identity as gay or bisexual than peers who had not been abused.”

A 2001 study in the Archives of Sexual Behavior titled Comparative Data of Childhood and Adolescence Molestation in Heterosexual and Homosexual Persons, also details how large percentages of homosexuals were molested by those of the same sex.
A 1989 study, The Initiation of Male Homosexual Behavior, by Haverkos of 279 homosexual/bisexual men with AIDS and control patients published in the Journal of the American Medical Association reported: “More than half of both case and control patients reported a sexual act with a male by age 16 years, approximately 20 percent by age 10 years.”
Noted child sex abuse expert David Finkelhorn found that “boys victimized by older men were over four times more likely to be currently engaged in homosexual activity than were non-victims. The finding applied to nearly half the boys who had had such an experience. . . . Further, the adolescents themselves often linked their homosexuality to their sexual victimization experiences.” This was found in a 1992 article by Watkins and Bentovim, titled The Sexual Abuse of Male Children and Adolescents: A Review of Current Research, that appeared in the Journal of Child Psychiatry.
A 2013 study in the Archives of Sexual Behavior by Roberts, Glymour and Koenen, titled, Does Maltreatment in Childhood Affect Sexual Orientation in Adulthood documents the solid connection between homosexual behavior and childhood molestation. This connection is also established in a 2007 piece appearing in The American Journal of Public Health, titled History of Childhood Sexual Abuse and HIV Risk Behaviors in Homosexual and Bisexual Men, by Brennan, Hellestedt, and Ross. In 2011, the American Journal of Public Health documented the same in an article titled, A Meta-Analysis of Disparities in Childhood Sexual Abuse, Parental Physical Abuse and Peer Victimization Among Sexual Minorities and Sexual Nonminority Individuals.
There are probably a dozen other studies I could cite, all appearing in peer-reviewed journals and all asserting that large percentages of homosexuals were themselves molested or abused during their youth. There seems to be a consensus on this among sexual abuse experts.

Paul Florez is not happy with my post because it “reads like something written 3 decades ago.” He seems to be under the misguided impression that modern feelings about some issues supersede solid research. Just because an argument is not politically correct or popular does not make it inaccurate. If Florez would like to present ANY research from ANY scientific or medial professional group that has concluded homosexuality is genetic, then present it. Good luck with that. Even the Human Genome Project that utilized over 250 geneticists to map the human genetic structure was unable to find a “homosexual” gene. And yes, I have friends who are gay and I‘ve lost friends who are gay. So has everyone. But that does not invalidate the research I have presented. And if homosexuality is NOT genetic, and thus is a changeable behavior likely caused by traumatic events during one’s youth, then the demands being made by the homosexual movement for certain “rights” need to be questioned. And no, I don’t scream anything in stores; that’s what your movement does in front of churches.

Paul Therrio seems to think the Bible does not address homosexuality, a ridiculous notion. The Bible is quite clear on this issue. I will refer you to Robert Gagnon, Associate Professor of New Testament at Pittsburg Theological Seminary and arguably the world’s leading scholar on this issue: http://www.orthodoxytoday.org/articles2/GagnonHomosexuality.php or you can watch him on Youtube:

That would certainly solve a lot of these problems but, as Mr Baldwin notes, those studies just can’t prove that homosexuality is genetic…

…which means its a behavioral choice of sexual partners…

    ….which really isn’t my business….

..unless public policy is being influenced by the anti-science conclusions of Big Gay.

  8. regarding the comment ….”The bigger issue is that Obama has transformed the Executive Branch into a corrupt, anti-constitutional branch which seems to have no fear of Congress…”.

Issa along with all the other RINOS are making a mockery of our constitution and have so far allowed this Obama agenda to fundamentally transform America into a third world Islamic controlled politically correct country. But Obama’s not done yet- he needs the time he has left in office to completely implement his agenda.
One brave Rep has stood up and said enough is enough and we must hold Obama accountable.
Rep Ted Yoho (R-FL) sponsored House Resolution 693 – to form a committee to investigate high crimes and misdemeanors of the entire Obama administration (which will also implicate Hillary). He needs lots of co-sponsors but has just 9 so far (unlike Chaffetz getting 73 co-sponsors to impeach the IRS Chief – big deal).
It is in the hands of the American people now to call and demand that all other Republican Reps co-sponsor that Resolution or stand with Obama. You just have to decide where you stand on America, since there is no neutral in this fight for our survival as a free and sovereign nation.

  9. Steve,

To be clear, you didn’t initially say that there is a connection between homosexuality and being abused. What you said was “The vast majority of homosexuals were Molested or abused in their youth.” You were making the outrageous claim that people, with rare exception, become gay only if the were sexually abused in their youth. I would hope that not even you believe that to be the case.

As for your claim that there are no studies linking homosexuality to genetics, I suggest that you simple Google “is homosexuality genetic?” and you will find many studies that do just that.

Whether or not homosexuality is genetic or simply a behavioral choice choice is not really the point. Is it? Choice of religion is not in our genes, nor is what we choose to say. Likewise, falling in love with someone of a different race or religion or of the same gender are all protected rights that have nothing to do with genetics.

  10. Gee wiz Lee, at what point in time did we become controlled by Islam? Just because someone tells you something a thousand times doesn’t mean it’s true. Perhaps the reason for only 9 co-sponsers is that not every Republican is a publicity seeking wack job (just in time for re-election).

  11. The “gay gene” is not a light switch gene, waiting to be found. Current research suggests that the genetic link to homosexuality is likely a highly complex matrix of many genes. Proving the chain of causation will probably happen eventually, but research in this area is complicated and delayed by medical ethics. If they demonstrate genetic causality, it may change social attitudes a little, as it becomes provable that attraction isn’t a choice. But most people already know this from our own experience. At what age did you chose to be hetrosexual–to have that first crush on a girl or boy in your class? More likely, finding a genetic root cause would lead less tolerant elements of society to press for gene therapy to “cure” the “condition” which might actually bring more harm and discrimination on homosexuals. So medical ethics are diverting resources away from this area of study.

But the link is real, and we now believe that the matrix of genes behind homosexuality in males is actually carried by females. For a long time, the notion of a genetic cause was paradoxical: if there was a gene, it should be selected out of the population, as it certainly makes carriers less likely to procreate and pass on the gene. But recent studies have shown statistically significant increases in fertility in the mother and maternal aunts of gay men relative to the general population. In other words, the same combination of genes that makes a man gay and less likely to procreate, are likely the same genes that can make women more fertile and more likely to propagate the genes through female children.

    http://www.medicaldaily.com/gay-gene-survived-evolution-it-carried-mothers-who-have-more-children-study-240813

    Educate yourself.

Don’t forget that your Christian orthodoxy once burdened the left-handed with similar scorn. The perceived permanence of religious moral code is an illusion. 200 years from now, the devout will disavow your interpretation of sexual mores just as you so easily dismiss the once heretical notion that left-handedness is a sign of evil.

  12. The study you refer to Encinitas Dad, is highly speculative which is why it did not change the opinions of any of the leading professional groups like the two APAs or the AMA. The reason why no medical or psychological group has issued a statement in support of the genetic origin of homosexuality is due to the failure of the various “twin” studies to established any kind of genetic link. These are studies of identical twins that had their been a “gay gene,” there would have been a very high incidence of both twins engaging in homosexual behavior. But they didn’t find that. The evidence, to this day, still, overwhelmingly, favors early childhood environmental influences.

  13. Steve,

The real reason no medical or psychological group has made a statement is that homosexuality is not considered a medical or psychological disease. They don’t care.

I also noticed that you criticize an actual study, and to refute it, offer nothing specific.

    Overwhelming?

    So far I’m underwhelmed.

  14. Paul Therrio says: June 5, 2016 at 9:23 am

…Gee wiz Lee, at what point in time did we become controlled by Islam? …..
Paul – of course, Obama is taking baby steps on the Islamic transformation, but he is transforming this nation, as promised – 5 days before the election. it is obvious if you would do some research. I was horrified to read the following information –
1 – about 500,000 young girls in Muslim families living in America have experienced genital mutilation – that is in the Koran. it will happen in June and July to give them time to recover before school starts in August, Sept.
2- girls as young as 9 in Muslim families are being sent to other countries to be wedded to adult Muslims. Then when they are 18 , their husbands can come over.
2 – honor killings, beheadings, beatings of Christians or other non-muslims.. America may become just like Sweden – dubbed ‘rape capital of the western world’ because one in every 4 non-muslim females has been raped by a Muslim man or group. Sweden just opened up its first Rape Crisis center for boys and men because of the # raped.
3- The man who became El Cajon mayor by virtue of receiving a majority of the vote was forced to resign because he uttered a true statement that was offensive to the Muslims in El Cajon.
4- Obama has ignored the 1952 law set in place for a very good reason. Muslims do not assimilate. Trump is right. http://conservativefiringline.com/banning-muslims-not-only-constitutional-but-its-the-law-since-1952/#
5-in 2008, the national spokesman for CAIR said – “Islam is not in America to be equal to other religions, but to be the predominate one..”
———–Obama was made president to be the closer on the lid of the coffin of America’s constitution and sovereignty. And he is doing an awesome job. He just needs more time so he can complete his agenda. Uneducated Americans will want to give him that time.

  15. Lee,

Please share the details on the former El Cajon mayor making statements that were offensive to Muslims. Where are you obtaining the information to back up your contention that was the reason he resigned?

Is your entire list of items above obtained from the same source?

    Thank you.

  16. Barry,

Of all of Lee’s fantastic claims, that’s the one you pick to question?

  17. HQ:

LOL. It appears from Lee’s “I was horrified to read the following information,” followed by a list of about six items, that she may have copied and pasted from another source. The local El Cajon item — with which I am very familiar — would be a good test of the veracity of all of the claims. I simply picked the one I don’t need to look up.

  18. Barry – I read what the Mayor said in the SD Union and the El Cajon paper. It was not offensive to me. I will have to look up his quote.

The other items I get from various sources. I am not satisfied with Fox News – giving us the information they want us to know. For the agenda regarding America, all you have to do is find out what Muslim immigrants/refugees are doing to the countries in Europe. That is horrifying. In England, with about 10% Muslim population, they are now talking about banning the English flag from public view as it is offensive to Muslims. more later.

  19. Lee, the pressure on Mark Lewis to resign came as a result of comments he made about Chaldeans.

  20. “The “gay gene” is not a light switch gene, waiting to be found. Current research suggests that the genetic link to homosexuality is likely a highly complex matrix of many genes. Proving the chain of causation will probably happen eventually, but research in this area is complicated and delayed by medical ethics”

This is why a lot of people suggest that public policy reflect actual science rather than theories yet to be proven. In fact, being skeptical of this research doesn’t make you a bigot, it makes you a pretty good scientist.

” If they demonstrate genetic causality, it may change social attitudes a little, as it becomes provable that attraction isn’t a choice. But most people already know this from our own experience. At what age did you chose to be hetrosexual–to have that first crush on a girl or boy in your class?”

Argumentam ad populam—has no basis in science of logic whatsoever.

“More likely, finding a genetic root cause would lead less tolerant elements of society to press for gene therapy to “cure” the “condition” which might actually bring more harm and discrimination on homosexuals”

So what? Seriously, so what ? If hormone therapy can physically help Bruce Jenner become Caitlyn Jenner, who cares if gene therapy can help a same-sex attracted teenager become a middle aged, married to a woman father with kids?

This is where Big Gay gets it wrong, over and over again. Big Gay operates from a POLITICAL premise rather than a scientific one, a premise which suggests that it’s okay to be gay but it’s not okay to not want to be gay. Guess what? I still don’t care unless…

The freedom to sleep with whom you choose becomes a political movement to use force to achieve goals (which Big Gay is).

“But the link is real, and we now believe that the matrix of genes behind homosexuality in males is actually carried by females.”

You can’t say that with certainty (as you said earlier) so you either (a) misspoke or (b) are intentionally being disingenuous (which I can’t abide)

“Don’t forget that your Christian orthodoxy once burdened the left-handed with similar scorn.”

…and held that the earth was flat. So what? Neither religion nor science have all of the or “complete” answers to this complex. In this case, it appears that “Christian Orthodoxy” are in agreement that homosexuality is an outlier to the rest of the population.

    Guess what? I still don’t care unless…

The freedom to sleep with whom you choose becomes a political movement to use force to achieve goals (which Big Gay is).

I used to think gay marriage was about taxes and inheritance rights and, because of that inequity, I spoke out strongly against Prop 8 but sheez…teenage boys are winning Girls State Track Championships and I am being told that my teenage daughter has to share the gym showers with middle-aged men who dress like women.

Can you see how ridiculous this is becoming? I think Big Gay is actually hurting LGBT people now

  21. Brian,

Let’s set aside the sterile science for a moment.

I urge you to just sit and talk with a friend, colleague, neighbor, friend or family member who is gay. If you have a real personal relationship, then ask questions. In my family, my brother knew he was gay when he was four. Even more surprising, so did our parents–though nothing was spoken for about 20 years after that. That 4 year old kid was never abused or traumatized. And he didn’t realize that his attraction was unusual until he was 8. I didn’t know he was gay until I was in my 20s. I had the typical teenage male attitude, which is to say not positive at all about homosexuality.

But then I watched as my brother cared for his long-time partner, who I only met once or twice, died a horrific death of AIDS. One detail of that ordeal stuck with me. As the partner’s health started to deteriorate, they had to shop around to interview doctors and hospitals to find one that would grant my brother visitation. Interestingly, the hospital they chose was a Catholic hospital. But, of all the things they had to worry about, hospital shopping should not have been one of them. The indignity of that circumstance outraged me, shocked me, and changed my heart. These are just people, deserving not to get fired or kicked out of their home for who they love.

These are basic and simple ideas, and thankfully ones that resonate with young people. In a generation you, me, and most of these issues will be memories.

  22. “These are basic and simple ideas, and thankfully ones that resonate with young people”

Most of what you wrote resonates with me but I think we are talking past one another.

Big Gay (the professional political movement) is hurting gay people now. The libido dominandi behind it’s overreach is creating a push back.

This is an important point— ALL people have natural, individual rights. If policy focused on securing those rights, most of this discussion would be useless

  23. Encinitas Dad, it warms my heart that a Catholic hospital embraced the compassion of Christ and embodied the New Testament in their care for your family.

Brian, do you believe Big Gay is really a creation of the gay activist? I have come to the conclusion that it is a movement that is far more influenced and fostered by the leftist strategist as a means of creating division and putting these wedge issues on the agenda as a diversion. I think the majority of the left, a large portion of which are immigrants who are very biased against homosexuality, and other races for that matter, could care less about the LGBT agenda. It is the elites that see an opportunity to organize their grassroots activists around an emotional issue so that they don’t focus on the ones they are not willing to change, like cronyism. “Hey look at that shiny downtrodden gay, nevermind all those silly Wall St. guys giving us money.”

  24. “Encinitas Dad, it warms my heart that a Catholic hospital embraced the compassion of Christ and embodied the New Testament in their care for your family. ”

    Mine too.

“Brian, do you believe Big Gay is really a creation of the gay activist? ”

I don’t and I should probably echo your distinction when I make these comments but I think they are doing irreparable harm to gay people with their crazy agenda.

You know me well enough Leah to know that I don’t care about gay or straight “rights”; I care about individual rights. Nobody, choice of sexual partners notwithstanding, should be beaten, jeered or have force initiated upon them. That’s why same sex civil marriage bothers me none.

But gosh, to any gay people reading, who are politically active, I say this, “Leah, nailed it. You are being used.”

A 16-year old boy is competing in the Alaska State Girls track championship. Think about that.

  25. re comment from Barry Jantz
needing documentation of reason for the abrupt resignation of the El Cajon mayor. from the way the SD Union describes Mayor Lewis, he sounds just like Trump and heaven knows the SD Union does not like Trump.
    quote from the paper –
…”Members of the city’s large Middle Eastern immigrant community had called for Lewis’ resignation after he was quoted in a magazine saying that he had seen Chaldean children receiving free lunch and then “being picked up by Mercedes-Benzes.”
Lewis was also quoted as saying that once the Chaldeans — who are Iraqi Christians — arrive in America they soon learn “where all the freebies are at.”
Among those officials calling for Lewis to resign was Rep. Juan Vargas (D-Chula Vista). He called Lewis’ comments “derogatory and racist.. “I am sickened to see that someone in Mayor Lewis’ position would publicly make such disparaging and unfounded comments,” he said….”
    – My comments – pretty radical statements Lewis is making. right? my first question would be – was Lewis telling a lie? if so, then he deserved to resign. But then, why do we not demand that all other elected officials who lie resign as well?
But if the El Cajon Mayor comment was true, it begs the question, who can we say politically incorrect truth about? certainly not minorities, women, LGBT, Muslims, Islamists, CAIR, Muslim Brotherhood, etc.
So it appears the truth cannot be told if it offends a ‘protected’ class of people which obviously does not include white Christians.
    Give me a break.
It appears ‘1984’ is alive and well in 2016.

  26. We agree that LBGT issues are being used in political gamesmanship, but not on which side is doing it.

The truth is, trans people have been around for a long time, and I would assume they have been performing bodily functions for most of that time without problems. So why is it a problem right now?

In the 1970s, Renée Richards played tennis on the women’s pro tour briefly. Again, why now?

The obvious answer: the gay marriage SCOTUS decision removed a big red meat issue from the table to stoke fear and drive turnout among the right-wing base. The “new” issues are simply replacements for the one that was lost.

“Religious liberty” is a red herring. Christian business owners are already compelled to employ and serve Jews, Scientologists, Muslims, and parishioners of Flying Spaghetti Monsterism. It has been unlawful to discriminate on the basis of religion for a long time, so we have already established that successful professional relationships are independent of a shared religious belief system. Hiring or selling to a gay person is no different.

  27. Lee:

You sooo miss the point. Your original comment was this:

“The man who became El Cajon mayor by virtue of receiving a majority of the vote was forced to resign because he uttered a true statement that was offensive to the Muslims in El Cajon.”

As you’ve established in your own follow up, Chaldeans are Iraqi Christians.

So, did he or did he not make the statement about Muslims?

A simple yes or no will do.

Or, a simple acknowledgement that you were incorrect to include the Mark Lewis example on a list proving Islamic transformation — that would go a long way in this discussion.

  28. I meant to correct my previous stmt about Muslims in my opening line, but got distracted at lunch. you are right. I stand corrected on that issue. Thanks Barry for pointing that out.
