“Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote that he is not making a present or a compliment to please an individual – or at least that he ought not so to do; but that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country.” –Samuel Adams

  1. So, Mashable had an interesting take on Mr. DeMaio’s “GOP” positions…

    http://mashable.com/2014/11/04/house-elections-midterms-2014/?utm_campaign=Mash-Prod-RSS-Feedburner-All-Partial&utm_cid=Mash-Prod-RSS-Feedburner-All-Partial&utm_medium=feed&utm_source=rss

“[DeMaio is] one who supports gun control, immigration reform, same-sex marriage and combatting climate change, and he could serve as part of a model for GOP candidates to better align themselves with young voters {with} left-leaning opinions…”

I was asked, how I as a life long Republican, could actually vote for the first time for a Democrat …I had to think, then I looked at the contents of the Mashable article, and realized I had to have a tie breaker…I decided to go with the guy that doesn’t and most likely wouldn’t get continually called out for exposing himself in public….

  2. Except that Carl DeMaio doesn’t support “gun control” and has an identical view on gun issues and the Second Amendment as the NRA.

  3. So you’d rather have Peters who would Caucus with the democrats and support the Democrats on a host of other issues that deMaio doesn’t support (taxes and the like). Your logic is dumbfounding.

  4. Ok, smart guys..since you’re both so sure of yourselves let’s have a wager; If Carl gets through the next two years without a “news worthy” sexual/ethics scandal, I’ll donate $100 to the RPSDC…

When he does…and he will…you will donate $100 (each) to the National Organization of Marriage…

    You in??

  5. I might take that bet FF with a few conditions:

1- the loser donates to The Warrior Foundation/Freedom Station

2- we better define “news worthy”. If we’ve learned anything, the media will report claims from anyone who might politically profit from making such a claim.

  6. Elliot,

    “Dumbfounding.”

    Great choice of words…:)

So, you have no issue with Mr. DeMaio’s history of, evidence to support, and action therein that demonstrate over and over again his propensity for unethical behavior?

    You’re apparently ok with:
    1. His continued embellishment of his “reform” platform; so much so that Mayor Sanders called his “BS” out on the now viral YouTube where Sanders says as much.
    2. Plagiarism; while Bosnich’s claim of harassment was not codified, neither was DeMaio’s claim that was the reason Todd was fired..(how convenient)..let’s not forget a similar charge when DeMaio was called out for plagiarism copying a competitors website material…”down to the font, color and layout”..according to the San Diego Reader Article..
    3. His antics of tampering and vandalizing a competitors campaign sign, on the man’s own property, now captured for eternity on YouTube..
    4. His use of false avatars and spreading of disinformation about his primary opponent, using Richard Rider’s email to try to deceive former GOP donor Claire Reisse, by pretending to speak as Rider…
    5. Where there is smoke, there’s fire…he has been plagued with sexual impropriety and lewd acts for years now…from both the left, right, colleagues and relative strangers…

The question is Elliot; How are you ethically aligned with such an unethically behaving politician? Are you foolish, or are you turning a blind eye for some political “line in the sand” defensive position?

Yes..”dumbfounding” is an excellent word..dumbfounded how a former officer can even entertain such a poor example of leadership by someone who possesses such a loose interpretation of ethics…

  7. If your talking sex scandal then you might as well make the bet whether he resigns or gets booted out because of the sex scandal like Foley, Filner, etc.

  8. No. No bet for me, Frank. That’s in the past.
I am already focused on the 2016 election. There’s a lot to do and very few willing to do it.

  9. Former officer? Hey I’m still a Lieutenant Colonel in the reserves! But let’s look at it militarily in two ways.

FIRST on the ethics allegations. I’m company commander and PVT Bosnich announces to the whole unit that his squad leader SGT DeMaio has done a sexual harassing act in the bathroom. Now I’ll follow SHARP and investigate. PVT Bosnich can’t produce evidence or file charges. I can’t demote SGT DeMaio but I’ll keep my eye on. Likewise on your other charges. Nothing is something I can demote or kick out of the service for, but he’ll get his counseling statements.

So I think I’m reasonable. I haven’t been actively supporting DeMaio. I did walk a precinct for him but didn’t contribute money instead opting for other candidates. But yes I still wanted him to win over Peters which leads me to looking at it military this way:

SECOND. In this scenario, you and I are America. The Western Allies lost a round to the Germans who are appalling to both our interests and behavior. The allies have teamed up with Russians who don’t share western values. Germany and Russia are now in a fight.

*I should add this that I am in no way saying you are Nazi or a sympathizer. I could say country A or B but this just made it easier to visualize and is also why I said Germans instead of Nazis

So in this situation we can:

    A) Recognize that the Germans are the bigger problem because they winning this round would mean hegemony in the wealthiest most industrialized region of the world.
    B) Sit out the fight between the Russians and Germans and get involved after the Germans beat the Russians hoping an stronger ally with our values comes along to beat them.

A is choose the lesser of 2 evils strategy. B is a principled abstention from conflict. I choose A. But you and the National Organization of Marriage went for:

C! Tell the western allies they have betrayed their principles by allying with Russians so we are now going to make sure the Germans win because we’d rather have them
win then the Western Alliance ever be expanded or associated with someone like the Russians!

That is why I’m dumbfounded. Peters winning this year would solidify his position and make CA52 Democrat until he’s dead. This would strengthen Democratic influence in San Diego. CA52 is the only purple congressional district. You think you can win this fight like it’s Issa’s or Hunter’s district which is flat out bad IPB. DeMaio may not share your values but DeMaio is one of 200+ Republicans in a Congressional Majority. He will caucus with the GOP and strengthen the GOP. Peters would build towards a democratic majority which was just there 4 years ago.

So as an officer I stand by my judgment to have a reserved opinion on DeMaio’s behavior pending evidence and my strategic judgment to see that the GOP winning in a purple district is better than the Democrats keeping it.
