2012 shapes up as the most-important SD Council election year since the 1990s, and GOP hopefuls Scott Sherman and Ray Ellis are out of the starting gate at a gallup. Scott Sherman is the favorite in District 7 (from which Marti Emerald has fled) and tallied over $55,000 in support by the Dec. 31st cutoff date. Fellow businessman Ray Ellis (opposing the incumbent Sherri Lightner in D1) floored eveyone, reporting beter than $150,000 collected! Victories by Ellis, Sherman and Mark Kersey in nearby District 5, would give Republicans a 5-4 majority next year.
…… REACTION FROM RAY ELLIS
“I am honored by the number of supporters who have stepped up and joined our efforts”, said Ellis. “When I talk to people and share our plans for meaningful fiscal reform and economic growth they get truly excited to do everything they can to help me reform City Hall.”
“To raise over $100,000, from so many people, against an incumbent, in such a short period of time really demonstrates the strength of Ray’s candidacy”, said Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher.” More info about the Ellis campaign is here : http://www.rayellisforcouncil.com/
……… AND FROM SCOTT SHERMAN
“I am incredibly humbled to have so many people support my campaign,” said Sherman, president of 5th Avenue Insurance, and lifelong San Diego resident. “However, we have a long way to go and there are big challenges ahead. I promise that no one will outwork me in this election and I hope I have the opportunity to reform the way City Hall does business.”
In addition to his grassroots and financial support, Scott Sherman announced the support of Mayor Sanders in December. He has also recently received the endorsements of Councilmembers DeMaio, Faulconer and Zapf, along with Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher. Sherman has also received the endorsements of leading business organizations including the Lincoln Club of San Diego County and the New Majority of San Diego.” Learn more about Scott Sherman’s bid here: shermanforsandiego.com
