GOOD news! CA Senate President Darrell Steinberg recently announced he is tabling, until next year, his efforts to push SB x1 23 (formerly SB 653), an insane bill to expand the types of taxes CA cities, counties and local school districts can levy – including local income taxes.
Sadly, the proposal isn’t completely dead.

Part of me hopes this certified legislative idiot and his cabal bring it back for the ballot in 2012. I’m confident we can kill it big-time.
Such a nutty idea (doubtless backed by the usual suspects) would further damage the credibility of the Democratic Party.
If that’s possible.

Steinberg was convicted of being a tax traitor at a highly entertaining “trial” by KFI’s John and Ken last spring. Here’s the video I took.

If Steinberg ET AL thought the measure would be approved by the voters, they would definitely pass the bill. They are savvy enough to know that the times have changed — it would be suicidal to proceed with this measure.

It IS likely that they will bring back the measure. According to the article (and common sense), they will likely drop the income tax option, and perhaps the sales tax option. But imposing local “sin taxes” is still in vogue — including “sugary drinks.
Question: Are artificially sweetened sodas “sugary” drinks? What exactly IS sugary? Sweet tasting?
Damage the credibility of the Socialist-Democrat party? I didn’t know that the Socialist-Democrat party had any credibility left. At least with people who aren’t Marxist-redistributionism loving liberal ideologues.

Indeed, Robert. Perhaps you missed my last three word sentence.
