Five years ago, the race for the 74th Assembly District came down to Martin Garrick and Marie Waldron. On June 6, 2006 , Mr. Garrick won a close victory … but on October 6, 2011, the same Martin Garrick happily endorsed the same Marie Waldron to succeed him, saying: “It is so important we send principled conservatives to Sacramento to fight for taxpayers and small businesses. As a small business owner and local taxpayer advocate, Marie is perfectly suited to fight the culture of over-taxing, over-spending, and over-regulating in Sacramento.”
…San Diego’s Voice will DOUBLE in North County. Here’s How!
The East-West district which elected Mr. Garrick (running from Carlsbad to Escondido) will now elect two San Diegans to the Assembly in 2012… (1) an Inland representative from Escondido, Fallbrook, San Marcos (likely Councilwoman Waldron, AD 75) … and (2) a Coastal lawmaker from Oceanside, Encinitas or Carlsbad (Rocky Chavez, Sherry Hodges or Farrah Douglas from AD 76). This logical realignment emerged from the State Redistricting Commission’s maps.

Great news for Marie. In speaking with Garrick a few months back about his endorsement if the seat were drawn to include Escondido and any of the coastal areas you note, it was clear he had gained a lot of respect for Waldron during and following their contest against each other, and that he would likely endorse her regardless of the new lines. All too often, those who campaign against each other carry animosity for years to come, even when they share philosophies. It is great to see clear-thinking maturity by the Assemblyman and the future Assemblywoman, and a mutual respect for each other.
