Congratulations to Carl DeMaio, Tony Krvaric and everyone else involved in the lengthy trench-fighting process to gather 115,000 valid signatures for this signal reform.  Here is Carl DeMaio’s e-mail bulletin just received:   “ Moments ago I received the official notice from the City Clerk — our Pension Reform Ballot Measure has qualified for a public vote! Thank you for your role in this huge accomplishment.  The Reform Team is on a Roll ! ”

“And we broke a record!  According to the official count by the City Clerk, a total of 115,991 valid signatures were contained on our petitions — well in excess of the required 94,500 signatures necessary to force an issue on the ballot. ”       /s/   Carl DeMaio

….. WHAT DOES IT DO,  SHOULD  SAN DIEGO  VOTERS APPROVE IT ?

Councilman DeMaio describes what led to this proposal, and what it would do:

“After years of fiscal crisis, service cuts, and higher fees, voters can now impose a comprehensive solution to end unsustainable pension payouts in city government. This ballot measure produces billions in savings for taxpayers by moving new employees into 401(k) retirement accounts and capping the pensionable pay of existing employees.

This win for taxpayers would not have been possible without the tireless work of our entire coalition of businesses, neighborhood groups, and taxpayer advocates representing every political party — who along with current Mayor Jerry Sanders have essential partners in advancing this initiative. ”

And as they say at start of each new Olympiad … “Let the Games Begin.”

  1. Republican Party of San Diego chairman Tony Krvaric just made this statement about the successful Petition campaign:

    ———————————————————————————————–
“After decades of labor union bosses and enabling politicians driving our city into financial ruin, San Diegans will finally have an opportunity to vote on true, taxpayer-centered reform to fix San Diego once and for all in 2012.”

“Putting the needs of hard working San Diego taxpayers first is not a Republican or a Democratic idea. For too long, labor union bosses have been in charge at City Hall. With this ballot measure, a proper balance will finally be restored.”

“While we will mount an aggressive campaign to pass the measure, we have no doubt that it will. And when it does, San Diego will stand as a model for thousands of cities of how people can take back control of their local government.”

SAN DIEGO REPUBLICANS APPLAUD PENSION REFORM MEASURE AND VOW AGGRESSIVE CAMPAIGN TO PASS IT
Local Republican Party has already formally endorsed the Pension Reform ballot measure and will mount an aggressive campaign in support of it.

“vatifishoteic” is what we strive for at SD Rostra.
Glad to hear you are now “prossbanous”.

  3. Once in awhile a spam comment slips through. As long as Mr. Sills wants to have fun with them, okay with us. Consider ourselves completely prossbanous.
