It’s not time YET, but as the city of San Diego runs out of options, and Carl DeMaio keeps hammering on real solutions, look for cracks in the Dem CC members’ heretofore unflinching loyalty to their bosses — the public employee labor unions
The one Dem who has for years sometimes failed the union loyalty tests has been iconoclast Donna Frye — the best city council member we’ve had in the last 10 years — after Carl DeMaio, of course.
This city council split with the unions HAS to come. It’s only a question of “when.”
it might be surprising to some, but I predict that Marti Emerald is certainly one possibility to show significant independence from the unions that got her elected. Sherri Lightner is another. Even Tony Young will likely weaken. Donna Frye is always hard to predict in such matters.
On the other hand, Todd Gloria is not likely to relent. But, as I see it, only Ben Hueso is unlikely to EVER vote against his union handlers.
My slogan: “Necessity is the mother of invention — or, in this case, reform.” And necessity is becoming more and more apparent — even to the Dems on the SD CC.
Be patient with them — the SD CC REPUBLICANS of the last 15 years have been slow learners, to put it kindly. TOO kindly, come to think about it.
Hell, they’ve been an integral part of the problem until DeMaio got elected. Republicans Susan Golding, Dick Murphy, Casey Gwinn, Harry Mathis, Judy McCarty, Brian Maienschein, and Jim Madaffer led the charge into the valley of fiscal death — the deficits and unfunded liabilities we face today. And remember, they all profited handsomely from these taxpayer giveaways — as, of course, did the city’s elected Democrats.
BTW, I blithely predict that we’ll see similar epiphanies popping up in other city councils n the next year or two — by necessity, not by choice.

Hueso has been good to his bosses, and as a result will soon be rewarded with a state assembly seat where he can continue to wreak havoc. We need Hillary’s red “reset” button…can’t we start over!!!
