The reaction of San Diego’s political community to the Vargas promotion is a Collective Sigh of Relief since Ms. Vargas commands the same respect and trust [on both sides of the political aisle] as enjoyed by Cathy Glaser, her longtime predecessor.  Contacted today, Cathy Glaser told SD Rostra, “I’m very happy about Elvira’s promotion.  She certainly is worthy and has the right heart and mental attitude to do the job.  The work she did somewhat behind the scenes is what allowed me to do my job so easily.”

Elvira Vargas’  promotion, by San Diego Registrar of Voters Deborah Seiler, was made public today (March 28th).

Elvira Vargas is a 20-year veteran of the SD Registrar’s office, and worked with Cathy Glaser from 1995 to 2010, learning the ropes directly from “Ms. Indispensable” herself.

As someone who deals with Registrar of Voters’ offices in other counties, Your Correspondent can state with confidence that we have The Best Registrar of Voters  office in Southern California. Here,  service to the public, openness and fair dealing are routine, every day facts of life. In some other places (which will go unnamed) it is a Whole Different Story…and not a very happy one  either!

Two major reasons for this are Elvira Vargas and Cathy Glaser.  They are true public servants who give the Taxpayers their moneys’ worth, and assure fair and democratic elections.  Congratulations to Registrar of Voters Deborah Seiler and her senior staff for promoting a Star player, from within the ranks,  to this vital job.

  1. Deborah Seiler has been a “straight shooter” with our county party, as has all of her staff that I’ve come in contact with over the years. I hold her in the highest regard.

Cathy Glaser was a class act and Elvira Vargas is the right person for Cathy’s old job. Elvira always has a smile on her face and a CAN DO attitude – which is rare these days in any industry, let alone a government agency.

    Kudos and congrats all around.
