Judy McCarty, who spoke for District 7 at  the SD City Council from  1985  to 2000, is endorsing GOP busiessman Scott Sherman for the same Council job.  It is fair to say Judy McCarty’s blessing is the single best  any D7 candidate can receive:  a decade after leaving office, she still commands affection and respect in the older neighborhoods like San Carlos, Allied Gardens and Del Cerro, where memories are  long  and loyalties run  Deep.   A major coup here for candidate Scott Sherman.   [Councilwoman-in-Exile  Marti Emerald recently  fled the redrawn District 7 in order to seek a new term elsewhere].

…. JUDY MC CARTY EXPLAINS HER ENDORSEMENT

“Scott and his family are long-time residents of Allied Gardens and, just like the rest of us, wants safe, well-maintained communities,” said Judy.  “As a long-time local business owner, he knows how to manage city resources to restore neighborhood services and balance the budget.  He clearly has the tools to be a very effective leader, and I’m proud to endorse him.”

Judy McCarty is a proud daughter of the gret Hoosier State, and graduate of Indiana University. She is Indiana basketball’s  #1 fan in San Diego county.  She was a staffer to Assemblyman  Larry Stirling in 1985 when she sought and won the 7th district seat.

“I am honored to have Judy’s support and grateful for her leadership in San Diego,” said Scott.  “She is regarded as a  straight-talking problem-solver and was a respected voice on the City Council.   Since her retirement, she has been a great asset to the region through her volunteer activities on behalf of libraries, Mission Trails Regional Park and the Urban Corps of San Diego.”

McCarty, who lives inSan Carlos, served on the San Diego City Council from 1985 – 2000.  Following her service on the Council, she served as a Library Commissioner and President of the San Carlos Friends of the Library, Board vice-president of the Urban Corps of San Diego County, a non-profit conservation corps education young adults, and an advisor to MissionTrails Regional Park.

  1. And, just today former Council member, Donna Frye endorsed Mat Kostrinsky in the City Council District 7.
“Mat Kostrinsky has already proven himself to be a community leader in District 7. He knows the residents, he understands the issues, and he knows how to bring people together to achieve results for the community,” so stated Frye.

Should make a very interesting race against Scott Sherman. Mat has strong community involvement roots.
