After three years’ hard duty as one of Mayor Sanders’  volunteer trustees on the City Retirement board, businessman Ray Ellis (R) today said he will leave the board to concentrate on his 2012 election bid vs. incumbent Sherri Lightner (D).   In thanking Ellis for his service  Mayor Sanders said, “Ray has faithfully served taxpayers and the City San Diego as President of SDCERS.  He has worked tirelessly to  correct the mistakes and poor decisions of past boards and city leaders.”  During Ray’s tenure, the SDCERS board lowered payouts on the  DROP Plan, strengthened the financial position of the system and reduced investment costs.  All these efforts saved taxpayer money.  Ray is running for SD City Council, District 1 to have a greater impact on pension and fiscal reform if elected.

“Ray Ellis has been an outstanding public servant and I admire his volunteerism,” said Council President Pro Tem  Kevin Faulconer, adding, “San Diego taxpayers have benefitted from the leadership and reforms brought by Ray Ellis.”
