DeMaio endorses Jim Desmond and Omar Qudrat

DeMaio makes endorsements in open 5th District Supervisor race and campaign against Scott Peters

Carl DeMaio endorses Jim Desmond for Supervisor in North County’s 5th District.

“I’ve been impressed with Jim Desmond’s commitment to limited government and effective pension reform as Mayor of San Marcos. He is a strong supporter of the citizen effort to repeal California’s unfair gas tax and is unafraid to stand up for taxpayers. I am certain that Jim Desmond will be an outstanding representative for North County and I am proud to endorse him for the County Board of Supervisors,” said Carl DeMaio.

Carl DeMaio is the host of The DeMaio Report, a daily news and talk show on KOGO-AM 600.  DeMaio is recognized as a national leader on government reform and responsible fiscal management.  The founder of Reform California, DeMaio is leading the citizen effort to repeal California’s onerous gas tax.

Mayor Jim Desmond has also been endorsed by Supervisor Bill Horn, Sheriff Bill Gore, Supervisor Greg Cox, Supervisor Ron Roberts, Supervisor Dianne Jacob, six San Diego County mayors, former District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis and many other elected and community leaders.

Jim Desmond has been the Mayor of San Marcos since 2006.  Desmond, a senior pilot for Delta Airlines, is a Navy veteran and graduate of San Diego State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering.  Jim and his wife Kerri have two adult children.

Desmond is a candidate for Supervisor District 5, which is currently represented by Bill Horn, whose final term on the Board expires in 2018.  The district includes the cities of San Marcos, Carlsbad, Oceanside and Vista, and the inland North County communities of Bonsall, Borrego Springs, De Luz, Fallbrook, Lake San Marcos, Pala, Pauma Valley, Rainbow, Ranchita, Rancho Santa Fe, Valley Center and Warner Springs.

Omar Qudrat for Congress Wins Major Endorsement from San Diego
and National Republican Leader Carl DeMaio

Qudrat’s qualifications and endorsements make him the only candidate that can win in November.

San Diego – April 6, 2018 — Today, former Defense Department official and Counter-Terrorism Prosecutor Omar Qudrat, Candidate for Congress in California’s 52nd District, received the endorsement of San Diego and national Republican leader Carl DeMaio.

This endorsement highlights Omar’s unmatched and growing support as the only Republican that can beat failed politician Scott Peters in November. Carl DeMaio, a national, California, and San Diego Republican leader, commended Omar’s candidacy, “Omar Qudrat has been at the forefront of the fight against terrorism through his exceptional service with the U.S. Department of Defense in Afghanistan and as a counter-terrorism prosecutor. I know Omar will fight for San Diego taxpayers as a common sense voice in Congress.”

Omar Qudrat stated, “Carl’s endorsement means so much to me because he is a proven leader, he achieves real results, and he knows what it takes to win tough fights. Carl has taken on the toughest fights and has shown results for all of us.”

The California primary vote takes place June 5.

Omar was born and raised in Southern California with his two sisters. He is a son of immigrants from Afghanistan. Omar’s parents instilled in him a belief in self-determination, the value of hard work, and the importance to give back to his country. He and his two older sisters attended public schools from K-12 in a gang neighborhood at the height of Los Angeles’s historic gang violence. Where others in his neighborhood saw gloom and felt a sense of discouragement about the future, Omar’s family only saw opportunity and the American dream.

Omar became an attorney while his sisters include a Ph.D professor and an M.B.A. entrepreneur. After earning a B.A. from UCLA with Latin honors and college honors, Omar went on to earn a J.D. from Syracuse Law School, M.A. in International Relations from The Maxwell School of Public Affairs at Syracuse, and M.S. in Public Relations from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse, but watching our nation at the cusp of the U.S. military’s surge in Afghanistan, Omar, like so many Americans in his generation, felt the need to serve his country. For 18 months Omar served as a Department of Defense civilian official in Afghanistan as an Advisor to ISAF military leadership and as Political Advisor to the NATO Ambassador.

Omar joined the U.S. Army Reserve component as a Judge Advocate because service matters most to him. That means ending terrorist attacks on our homeland and keeping Americans safe. As a counter-terrorism official, he helped prosecute Guantanamo detainees. Cases within the jurisdiction of his former office include capital cases against the alleged mastermind of the USS Cole bombing and the alleged mastermind of 9/11, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four alleged co-conspirators.

Omar took his experiences and acquired knowledge from his career to solve hard problems. Omar is focused on resolving what he calls our “domestic humanitarian crisis” related to our veterans. Specifically, Omar is focused on San Diego’s homeless veterans and their lack of meaningful access to healthcare. Additionally, in Congress, Omar will roll out the first-of-its-kind counter-terrorism strategy for large and medium-sized American cities to prevent homeland attacks.

Omar currently serves as a reserve officer in the U.S. Army.
