Can a Santee candidate win if they oppose rent control?

This isn’t click bait, it’s a serious question. In the same vein…

Can we assume an endorsement from the group below means meeting a litmus test of supporting mobile home rent control?

Is it possible to be a credible candidate in Santee without supporting rent control? What about a credible Republican candidate?

Are any candidates opposed to rent control of mobile homes?

What’s the experience in other cities having a large number of mobile homes?

Discuss. Or, candidates, also feel free to submit a statement/op-ed for publication.

Santee Mobile Owners Action Committee Announce Endorsement of Dustin Trotter for Santee City Council

Santee – The Santee Mobile Owners Action Committee (SMOAC) made it official, they are endorsing the leading candidate for Santee City Council in 2016, Dustin Trotter.

“We represent thousands of mobile home owners across Santee and we endorsed the candidate who has the best interest of those home owners in mind, Dustin Trotter. We look forward to helping him get elected to Santee City Council and expect him to continue to be a champion of Santee residents once there,” stated Buddy Rabaya, the President of SMOAC.

Dustin is a small business owner, opening Trotter Door and Trim in 2006, and has since become a general contractor, working across Santee and the region.

“I am thrilled to have the endorsement from such a wonderful group. SMOAC works tirelessly to improve the lives of thousands of Santee residents every year and to receive such a vote of confidence is humbling. Once elected I will work tirelessly to improve the lives of all Santee residents and I look forward to working with SMOAC and home owners across our great city,” said Trotter.

Trotter is married with two kids; wife Genny, and kids Kayla and Jaden.

Dustin was born in Santee to a hard working blue collar family, his mom working in various sales jobs and his dad owning a pizza parlor. Starting work at age 13 and picking up a second job by 16, Dustin quickly learned what it meant to be on time, have integrity, honesty, and loyalty. Values that he still embodies today in business and in daily life.

Dustin is running for Santee City Council, an election that will be held on November 8th.

  1. One of the greatest enemies to the poor are well meaning politicians and their violations of self-evident truths and unalienable rights in the form of unjust regulation.

See FDR and the Great Depression.

Enjoyed this Patch quote by Mayor Voepel. “I have always CHAMPIONED and DEFENDED our Mobile Home RESIDENTS, not just citizens of Santee but MY FRIENDS.

(No mention of a whole class of Santee citizens – property owners.)

Are Voepel and Trotter channeling FDR or Reagan?

Wonder how Dustin Trotter would have responded to the city council controlling the price of sandwiches when his family owned a restaurant?

“Thousands hacking at the branches to the one striking at the root.” – Thoreau.

We need statesmen not politicians in Santee. I think we need councilmen who ask “why is housing unaffordable?” and are addressing the property violation at the root. Can’t put out a fire in our home while training the hose on our neighbor’s door.

This is status quo “conservatism”. It only conserves government interference in our lives and the present state of things. It cannot bring greater freedom and prosperity to Santee because it doesn’t conserve our great American ideas.
