The California Reserve Peace Officers Association today announced their unanimous endorsement of Bonnie Dumanis for Mayor of San Diego.  The CRPOA represents more than 6,000 sworn peace officers statewide.  The association was founded in 1974 for the purpose of raising the professional, educational and employment standards of Reserve Peace Officers.

“Bonnie Dumanis is our choice for Mayor of San Diego.   Her leadership skills at the District Attorney’s Office, her proven fairness with labor organizations and her unwavering support for crime victims and law enforcement, reinforces our decision.”

The Association works to achieve their goals with individual reserves, reserve associations, departments, the State Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and the California Legislature. POST offers an extensive training program for Reserve Officers.  Dumanis served as a POST Commissioner for five years.

Dumanis’ executive leadership has created a more efficient, more accountable District Attorney’s Office.   Working closely with their law enforcement partners and with public safety as her top priority, Dumanis and the roughly 1,000 employees she oversees have maintained a 94 percent felony conviction rate, one of the highest in the State.

“I am honored to have CRPOA’s support.  Now more than ever, Reserve Peace Officers play a crucial role in our communities and our state. As departments across California deal with cutbacks and layoffs, CRPOA makes sure our reserve officers have the best education and training. ”

Public Safety issues have always been a priority for Bonnie.  Her office helped write and pass California’s Proposition 83, known as Jessica’s Law.  After the District Attorney’s Office successfully prosecuted John Gardner, Dumanis was a key supporter of Chelsea’s law.  In response to the killings of Amber Dubois and Chelsea King, she worked tirelessly to pass Senate Bill 5, which seals autopsy reports of murdered children.  Bonnie also helped defeat Proposition 5, dubbed the “Drug Dealers Bill of Rights.”  Her office co-sponsored Senate Bill 408, prohibiting a violent felon from possessing a bullet proof vest.  She also sponsored Assembly Bill 648 as a result of Nunez commutation, which requires notification to District Attorneys prior to any action of a Governor to commute a sentence.

Bonnie Dumanis has also been endorsed by the San Diego District Attorney Investigators Association and more than half a dozen other law enforcement organizations representing more than 10,000 members statewide.  You can read more at www.BonnieForSanDiego.com.
