Brief from the RNC — Final Day

from Louis Russo

Thursday night was the wrap up. CA delegates were told the day was designed to appeal to the undecided, and the speakers and their themes reflected that.

The CA delegation started the day with a speech and book signing by Congressman Darrell Issa. It was good to see him again and most were happy to do so, considering him a rock for conservative values in Congress.

I’m going to assume the networks showed most speakers. It’s a little hard to explain, but most delegates listened with one ear tonight…we all wanted the main course, e.g. Trump.

He didn’t disappoint the delegates. He said what we hoped he would and showed himself to be polished and presidential. The feeling on the floor was that he has the Republican vote, in large measure because people with big egos have compromised (save Ted Cruz) and he now needs to go after the undecideds, if they truly exist. (Oh, and don’t make any more blunders.)

All in, it was the experience of a lifetime. For a conservative, to sit in a packed venue of that size and realize that you’re in friendly territory (minus the media), was refreshing, especially for we Californians.

Large kudos to the planners (the Party, law enforcement, the city of Cleveland, etc). It’s a huge endeavor with an almost infinite number of moving parts. There were virtually no hiccups and the ones that took place were minor. A special note of gratitude to law enforcement.

Russo was a convention delegate from the 50th Congressional District.
