Representative Bob Filner registered to vote in the City of San Diego on Monday, after voting from Chula Vista the previous 7 years (per Registrar of Voters records viewed by SD Rostra). The longtime Congressman’s new voting location, however, is in Downtown San Diego, and the Registrar’s data base says that’s inside the 53rd U.S. House district, represented by his fellow Democrat, Susan Davis!
Oops. The US Constitution doesn’t require members of Congress to live within their districts, but if Rep. Filner (elected from the 51st district) runs for SD Mayor next year, he will likely hear about THAT from his rivals, both Democratic and Republican.
We cheerfully credit U-T editorial writer Bill Osborne for having the registration report a few hours earlier (via Twitter). But SD Rostra added the flavorful details of Rep. Filner now being registered within Susan Davis’ congressional district , and his long sojourn (7 years) registered in another city (the outstanding community of Chula Vista). The SD Rostra story was developed independently of Mr. Osborne’s efforts, but we tip our Hats to him as the first to publish the basic facts. Attaboy, Mr. B.

Osborne just tweeted us…
“Thanks for the credits. Not bad considering I’m in Hawaii.”
